The idea of adult Hansel & Gretel being in the witch-killing business is not bad, but the execution is. The movie is primarily dumb. If it was as funny as it is dumb, that would've been ok, but it wasn't. So what do we have: a cookie-cutter story, bad one-liners and shoddy special effects with bolt-on '3D-moments'. As I said, I liked the premise and some small ideas like Hansel suffering from diabetes. The rest is very forgettable.

I expected a bad movie, but I got a fun action movie with a surprising high amount of enjoyment.
It is fast paced with good action. Yes the story is really thin, but that's to be expected from a movie like this. In the end the story was actually better than I expected it to be.

Filled with cliché's and all, but enjoyable. Can't call it a bad movie.

So bad it’s good? Well, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is definitely bad. In this dark, modern interpretation of the classic Brothers Grimm tale, after escaping a witch’s lair as children Hansel and Gretel grow up to become bounty hunters, and are hired by a small town to kill a witch that has kidnapping the town’s children. Starring Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Peter Stormare, and Famke Janssen, the castings pretty good, but the actors don’t put much effort into their performance. And, the writing is just awful in every respect. At times the ridiculousness works and makes for some fun action scenes, but Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is a cheesy B-movie that has no charisma.

I know... It is a bad movie, filled with clichés and so predictable. But it was fun! And it has blood and entrails, and a girl kicking ass. How was I suppose not to like it?

But yeah, the CGI seemed a bit sketchy and the plot could be something better. I did like Gretel's character, it seemed somewhat feminist, and it was interesting to see Hansel with diabetes.

I guess Fairy Tale Reboot is going to become a genre now? The trailer pretty much told you what to expect. Okay. Not great. Not bad.

I saw this back in 2013 (according to my Facebook "On This Day" post), and one part I found hilarious was when Hansel did a somersault through the door and got hit with a frying pan to the face! It all happened so quick, it might go unnoticed. I had to rewind it to make sure I caught it and had a good laugh. LOL

After the movie, I found out that the director was Tommy Wirkola, the same guy who directed the Norwegian Nazi zombies in the snow movie "Dead Snow." So that is why his strange Tarantino-esque sense of humor is all over this film. I am a fan! I will be awaiting his next project. However, for all the fun I had watching this film though, I think they should be happy with what they have now. I think a H&G sequel would already be pushing their luck.

"Hansel and Gretel" doesn't care about chronology. It aims to please with cool, nearly futuristic guns, hand-to-hand combat with witches and a fair amount of creative kills. Common sense dictates that a movie featuring fairy tale characters will not be subject to the critical eye, so the ability to just have fun with "Hansel and Gretel" was not a problem.

Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton build a bond as brother and sister that makes you care about what happens to them. Famke Janssen is a formidable antagonist, unfortunately she is mostly seen in witch makeup.

This moves along at breakneck speed. Its run time is brief and its almost all action. The "R" rating was surprising and it allowed for some gore that added impact. A "PG-13" rating would have dulled its appeal.
