Idle Hands combines a lot of the tropes from other similar films with mixed success. Some of the scenes are pretty good. Some of the characters are likable. The story is pretty subpar and some of the characters make no sense - I'm looking at you Debi LeCure and the guy who is obsessed with his Ford.

I saw this when it came out and enjoyed it quite a bit. However, on rewatch I didn't think it was that great. The point where I downgraded it from a 6 to a 5 out of 10 was when Vivica A. Fox looks at her watch and says there's only 6 minutes to midnight in "Druid Time." It reminds me of a recent episode of Futurama:

>Hermes: "Listen up threeple, you'll be delivering this package to Space Italy!"
>Amy: "Space Italy?"
>Professor: "I know, it's an embarrassingly lazy name. But when you're creating an entire universe from scratch, you can't make up believable name for everything. Sometimes you have to go with 'Space Italy.'"

It's part of the joke in Futurama. In Idle Hands it feels lazy and that a few stoners took "First thought/best thought" a little too religiously.

I enjoyed this one much more back in the day than I did on this viewing. Good cast, good soundtrack, but just not quite as fun as I remembered it.

A goofy, crass, ridiculous little movie sure, but it's so much fun. I may be biased though, as I've always loved it, and I was just the right demographic for when this first came out. Love the gore, humor and music.

_Idle Hands_ is a stoner, horror comedy set during Halloween.
The story is pretty simple - almost too simple, since there is hardly any explanation as to why this is happening, but who cares?
We follow Anton (Devon Sawa), a total slacker who would love nothing more than to sit around, watch TV, and bang Jessica Alba - a man after my own heart!
Anton's hand has become possessed - for reasons - and is causing him to kill. The kills are few, and mostly happen offscreen. The bulk of the film is Anton interacting with his burnout friends: Mick, and Pnub.
The movie was made during the boom of gross-out teen comedies, so there is a bit of that within.
Notable elements are: Jessica Alba - looking sexy as Hell, Kelly Monaco's luscious D cups, and blink(182)-and-you'll-miss-it cameo from Tom DeLonge, a Rob Zombie music video, and The Offspring playing some songs.
Very '90s. A very fun watch during October. Think of it as Evil Dead, after a few mean tokes of The Devil's lettuce.
