Idle Hands

Idle Hands combines a lot of the tropes from other similar films with mixed success. Some of the scenes are pretty good. Some of the characters are likable. The story is pretty subpar and some of the characters make no sense - I'm looking at you Debi LeCure and the guy who is obsessed with his Ford. I saw this when it came out and enjoyed it quite a bit. However, on rewatch I didn't think it was that great. The point where I downgraded it from a 6 to a 5 out of 10 was when Vivica A. Fox looks at her watch and says there's only 6 minutes to midnight in "Druid Time." It reminds me of a recent episode of Futurama: >Hermes: "Listen up threeple, you'll be delivering this package to Space Italy!" >Amy: "Space Italy?" >Professor: "I know, it's an embarrassingly lazy name. But when you're creating an entire universe from scratch, you can't make up believable name for everything. Sometimes you have to go with 'Space Italy.'" It's part of the joke in Futurama. In Idle Hands it feels lazy and that a few stoners took "First thought/best thought" a little too religiously.

A goofy, crass, ridiculous little movie sure, but it's so much fun. I may be biased though, as I've always loved it, and I was just the right demographic for when this first came out. Love the gore, humor and music.
