Somehow I always believed that "Last Action Hero" was a terrible film. I don't know why, I just thought so. It was one of the last Arnie films I still had not seen, so today I decided to pop it in. I was blown away.

Arnold as Hamlet? All those epic one liners? Some of the most hilarious scenes! Danny DeVito as a cartoon cat? Stallone as the Terminator? Arnold Braunschweiger? GESUNDHEIT! "I must warn you, I've killed people smarter and younger than you.". Comedy Relief! And I can go on and on.

Last Action Hero is spoofing a lot of buddy cop and action movie tropes and it does it well. It fun and has some loads of fun action. In the end the movie drags a bit but it never bores you. I think this film is also one you can rewatch and it'll surprise with so much more.

In the end, I wish I've seen this years ago!

I've seen this movie a bunch. Still love it, it still holds up. It's worth it alone for the Blockbuster scene as well as any buddy cop tropes they use in the police headquarters. I love it but I'm keeping it a half star away from a full on 10 because admittedly it loses some steam in the last act. But now thinking on the last few scenes I love it. And the seventh seal guy coming for them?! I'm back in for 10 baby. Stars adjusted.

It is a comedy film combined with action that has nostalgic elements of the 90s era (cameos and references). In my opinion, it's not a bad movie, I think many people hated it because it was released after the huge popular impact that Terminator 2 caused. If Last Action Hero had seen the light at least five years after T2, I think it would have had another reception.

I feel like a lot of people when this film came out, didn't understand that it is both Arnie and John McTiernan making fun of themselves and the exaggeration for action heroes in films. Personally I feel like this film is an unsung gem and deserves to be reevaluated by critics and cinema-goers.

The movie is weakest when it plays the action scenes straight. But the satire, references, lampshading, and cameos are often a lot of fun! I found the kitchen scene with mom particularly funny.

Watching it today is still a typical, simple 80s/90s action film experience, but I think this one actually got better with age. In addition to all the self-referential jokes about the genre, even the stuff that was simply true contemporary 90s is now a fun throwback. So I really felt like it works on a whole additional layer now, compared to back when I first saw it.

I also have to hand it to the editors, they did a brilliant job at genuinely making it feel like Arnold Schwarzenegger had a cameo in a Schwarzenegger movie

The only reason I'm not giving this a higher rating is that the cheesy acting is one part that really didn't age as well.

Hadn't seen this one since I was a kid. So many jokes I must have missed like premature ejaculation and the cinephile references.
Still a blast. Amazing soundtrack of you're into hard rock.

For the life of me, I will never never understand how this movie is soo trashed upon. It's a blast. It's a self-referential treat, packed full with Easter eggs, cameos and just fun nods to both Arnold and the action genre itself.

Now, who hasn't wanted to be part of an action movie?!? Meet your biggest heroes, and be part of the story?!? Save the day and the girl, and become the ultimate badass?!? Especially as a kid?!? When Last Action Hero landed in my local cinema back in '93 I was 15 years old, and still that kid. And, in many ways, I'm still that kid at 44.

Last Action Hero means something to me, and I might not be totally objective when I talk about it, so I'm just going to shut up now after saying this...

I really like this movie!!!

Couldn't finish it. Got 70 minutes in and still had 55 to go...

The premise is interesting - going into the movie, making fun of the tropes and aping the 80s action flicks.

The execution is not good. Arnie is okay, the kid is okay, but all other actors and jammed-in cameo roles are bad.

I watched it when it first came out and wasn't able to remember it 30 years later. It's going to stay that way.

2/10

Arnold Schwarzenegger is the Last Action Hero. John McTiernan directs this action movie satire in which a young boy is magically transported into the newest Arnold Schwarzenegger action film. A lot of the meta comedy works; pointing out the ridiculousness of movie logic where things explode with one gunshot and good guys never get seriously injured. However, most of the acting is subpar and isn’t able to pull off the satirical tone of the film. And, it tries to work in a lesson about living in the real world that comes off as awkward and out of place. Last Action Hero is an interesting film that has some fun moments, but ultimately it neither delivers a good action film nor a good satire.

Last Action Hero is pretty much John McTieran spoofing 80’s action flicks. Not everything works and it took 30 yrs for the movie to grow on me.
Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) who can play a villain in his sleep owns every scene he is in. Arnold Schwarzenegger gives a likable performance as a movie character learning to cope with not being real. There is a charm to the Last Action Hero even if it can be pretty corny and too long.

Last time I saw this I was a very very young kid. I didn't even realize, that Gandalf (McKellen) has a small role there as a Death :D

“I need you there to believe in me.”

A movie that is literally about the magic of cinema that has a backdrop of a once majestic theater now empty, dilapidated and ignored, waiting to be replaced by a lifeless cineplex. It is more relevant than ever. Not to mention the idea that our movie villains would love our world because they get to win. A true masterpiece that features an extended action sequence revolving around a farting corpse.
