**Unfortunately not nearly as effective as the original film, but still a better than average remake. However, the music is superb, more modern, and at times reminiscent of the original soundtrack.**

One of the best remakes. It's very unsettling and tense, it made my skin crawl and I felt disfomfort throughout the film! Very creative update of the classic but still remains the sleaziness and brutality from the original. I liked that they decided to go withfirst person POV because I love it if it's done well. I think they pulled it off as it gave intimate look into the insanity through the maniac eyes. I love Elijah Wood but honestly I was quite skeptical how he would fit the role but he delivered. He's super creepy and unhinged in this. It has low kill count but they're all very disturbing. The score is legendary, the cinematography and effects are really well done. I really enjoyed this one.

Despite this movie basically existing because the director has a hard-on for gore, it's a pretty good thriller fic, if you yourself have a hard-on for gore. Saying that, there's not really much of a plot, and the characters could use a little more work. But Elijah Wood's performance was fantastic, honestly. Makes me just _slightly_ connect with his character.

But if you're not into gore, I'd recommend you to skip. And **DEFINITELY** do not watch if you have a weak heart/stomach (seriously, I almost threw up 4 times).

Elijah Wood stars in the brutal slasher film Maniac, a daring and imaginative remake of the 1980 cult classic. The story follows a serial killer who stalks young women and scalps them. Taking a unique approach, the film is shot almost entirely through first person perspective, forcing the audience to see through the killer’s eyes. And, this is quite effective at creating a visceral experience. Yet something is lost by limiting the focus to first person, and at times it becomes a bit distracting. Also, the characters are thinly drawn and exist only to be killed. Maniac is problematic, but there’s something to be said about the bold and provocative filmmaking style.

I’ve not seen the original so I can’t compare but it wasn’t a bad film, very different for Elijah wood, not gonna look at him the same after this so thank you for that maniac... It’s definitely very disturbing at times and I liked the first person style to it.

Goid thriller I guess, but the whole storyline is hard to understand and there's no real story. Honestly it might be good to watch if you're bored, otherwise don't bother.

It's more like a 6.5/10. Why this poor vote? 'Cause there are too many violent and cruel scene without sense. I would have expected a better explanation about Frank's problem. Ok, the mother was a bitch, in all the sense, but it's a little scuse to be so disturbed. Good synthwave soundtrack.
