That was pretty bad.

From the scenario that probably took two minutes to write, to the shitty blurry fx, and the constant inconsistencies.

The story is so basic and predictable it hurts, and basically nothing happens.
1)
He finds a cure
2)
It turns him into a superhuman monster
3)
His friend take the cure anyway and becomes a killer
4)
He chases him
There's basically no side plot or anything else happening. The cops part are 100% useless. The romance is almost inexistent, but still turned into an important plot point.

Most of the action is just blurs. Blurs because they're moving fast (with shitty effects, see below), and falling a lot, and if it wasn't enough let's add a batnado so that it's really really unwatchable.
The _echolocation_ effects are just as bad and useless.

The other bullshit:
:arrow_forward: Of course the science part, but that is expected
:arrow_forward: When he measures his need for blood, it's 6h and he basically reverts and suffers almost immediately, and duration is going down. However later in the hospital, it's 6h and nothing happens. Later in prison it's very probably a lot more than that. Honestly we don't care, but then why the constant repeated shots of his watch ringing 6h ?
:arrow_forward: Nicholas has time and ability to call him but
let himself die without calling an ambulance
:arrow_forward: It's all about "they will die young", since they are children. But then we're 25 years later and it's the same.
:arrow_forward: The bats are supposed to be secret, but as soon as she finds them, they are always exposed
:arrow_forward: The bats "would kill anyone but accept him" because he's like them, well they didn't kill him the first time, when he was still human
:arrow_forward: We never hear again of the little girl, what was the point ?
:arrow_forward: Why are they smoky when they move ? They just move fast because they're strong, they're not magically changing themselves into smoke. This is stupid, very annoying and unwatchable.
:arrow_forward: Why can't Milo do the same thing he does ?

Ending is very anticlimatic, with no post resolution, it just ends.

Then come the post credits. And I was like "wtf, this looks like DC". In the sense that it was trying to very hastily trying link / create a hype / build a universe believing that hastily adding a glimpse of information or characters plus a post credit scene would be enough to build the MCU. The I realized this is not Marvel, this is Sony trying to build a Spiderverse, and boy are they as shitty as DC to do that.

@fly_ also why does he go from a scene where she's had a small cut and it's hard for him to resit and is changing to seeing the Doctor torn up and apparently fine. Weird

@fly_ Yeah you pretty much nailed all the weak points of the film on the head. I was thinking it might be defensible as an action flick that allows more subpar plotlines, but then I realized all the action was just blurred out anyways

Not the worst but also definitely not the best.

The child actors in the beginning were horrible.
This comes off strongly as either a very low-budget marvels film, or a covid production. There were barely any actors to begin with, let alone female actors who’d pass any Bechdel or other test. But that wasn’t what I expected this film to do.
The story was a little rushed. There was little depth to it, like no real consequences for the outside world - just a singular story about a singular fate (expanded into two, three people) Another thing that makes it feel like they just tried to pump out “another one for the franchise, let’s slap a pretty face on it and it’ll sell ok enough”. There were a lot of moments that weren’t thought through, or plain silly.

Like the fight down in the subway - not only would there have been CCTV, there were a lot of witnesses that could have told the FBI already then that it wasn’t just ONE “vampire”.

Another thing is how Morbius apparently was highly suspected by the FBI, but they hadn’t tapped his phone or tracked him in any other way? Unlikely.

And what the heck is the other FBI agent trying to do by shaking the litter box of the cat, calling “Kitty Kitty”? That’s the dumbest I’ve seen in a while. Yeah sure, that’s how you attract cats. “Look, fresh litter! come kitty kitty!”
As well as Martine randomly getting scratched by an otherwise extremely docile cat. That’s just convenient eye roll material.

All in all, with a lacklustre story, it could have gone straight to Netflix and not been shown on the cinema at all. Still, it wasn’t as terrible that I regretted seeing it. I was mildly entertained. Wished the bits of humour had been more on point. The Venom joke was ok, but otherwise, it just felt mostly tired. Pretty, but tired. I don’t think many people would have gone to see it, weren’t it for Jared starring in it.

**Not a disaster as others seem to imply but definitely disappointing for a movie of such high budget.**

Morbius is a kind of a vampire Batman-Frankenstein mix. In the search of the cure for a rare and highly-debilitating blood decease, Morbius (a genius doctor) find a cure that has a terrible cost. His sickness is pretty much gone and he attains super powers, but also feel an insatiable lust for blood that can't be fully satiated by artificial blood.

The movie revolves around Morbius trying to remedy the consequences of the evil he unleashed to the world. While the cinematography is pretty decent, the plot really sucks. In the end of the movie, there are too many open questions (and inconsistencies) in the plot.

The movie seems to end very abruptly without any decent climax, and many of the secondary characters that I expected would play an important role in the resolution of the conflicts, seem to have been completely forgotten. Sony/Marvel does need better writers for their movies...

Honestly, I don't know why this movie has gotten so many bad ratings. Yes, it's a vampire movie, and I'm not sure how much originality can be squeezed out of that genre anymore. I am totally -not- a Jared Leto fan from some of his other movies and was hesitant on that behalf to watch this film. But once in, he actually pulls off a very realistic doctor role that is also bitter on life due to his health. Of course, looking for the solution leads to the bigger story that you could probably guess by now. I'm also at a point where I'm "over it" with a lot of these superhero movies, so it was refreshing to see something different out of the MCU. If I did have any complaints, there are some unanswered questions at the end, but you know, that always leaves room for a sequel. However, on top of that, the two end credit scenes just add more "Huuuh?" and probably do more damage than good.

Not the best movie ever, but a far reach from the worst as well. A solid, enjoyable experience, at least for me. As always, your mileage may vary.

Nothing in this movie makes any sense. If he has to drink a bag of blood every 6 hours, why not just do so? The human populace of how many billion people can not sustain a single vampire? No, he makes and consumes artificial blood for ethical reasons. Who says he needs to kill or hurt people to get what he needs? Horrible premise for his actions, not believable at all. And the rest of the story is the same. Weird decision making, boring, pointless dialogue. The bad guy is suddenly bad lacking any morals because he was bullied once apparently. Vampire powers are a myriad of random things. One time he is able to fly and it is hard to determine why exactly, the movie suggests because a subway train is pushing the air in front of it. Not only is it nonsense, it also looks bad CGI wise. To end on a good note, Jared Leto is a great actor and I would love to finally see him in a good movie.
