I didn't expect this movie to be as awesome as it was. Perfect combination of everything that's Jane Austen and zombies. I loved that neither of those two worlds gets overthrown by the other.

“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” Review

I have been hearing great reviews about this film for the past few weeks from various people, and I have to say they weren’t wrong. This movie was thoroughly entertaining, and fun throughout. The dark and serious tone of the film contrasted perfectly with the ridiculous premise, creating great humor...

As someone who had hated the novel, I'm very surprised to say the movie turned out very, very enjoyable! The premise translated way better into a movie than it did for a novel, the fighting scenes were nicely done, and the cast was also quite brilliant. For the first time ever, I could tolerate Douglas Booth on screen for more than 5 seconds, and that's a record. There's nothing particularly remarkable about it, but still, it was pleasant and entertaining.

As a Pride and Prejudice superfan, this movie makes my heart happy. Don't expect it to be fully "period accurate," after all there were not actually zombies in Jane Austen times. One of my favorite things about this movie is we get more of Lizzie and Darcy together, and even a tantalizing fight scene between the two of them. Full justice has been done to Wickham's character as well. Sam Riley makes an amazing Darcy. (Colin Firth first, Sam Riley second, none others are worth mentioning except perhaps Colin Firth again as Mark Darcy.) Some of the lines have been changed to include quotes from other Jane Austen novels, which I love! The writing is very clever. It can get pretty gory, but honestly this is a more P&P book-accurate adaptation than the disgrace which is the 2005 movie. Oh and Mr. Collins in this is just *chef's kiss*!

Genuinely hilarious. Did not see that coming. Matt Smith's Mr. Collins is brilliantly ridiculous and cringe. I LOVED IT!

Surprisingly good movie. I went into it not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Some great scenery along with pretty decent acting (although I found Lena Headey's character a bit ridiculous) over come some poor dialog and the occasional cringe worthy scene.

Some fairly large plot holes cause the movie to bounce incoherently at times (especially the ability to travel what appear to be large distances very quickly and the constant insistence on traveling alone in known zombie areas!), although, if you accept the premise of zombies, it's pretty easy to overlook the incoherency.

Overall, I gave Pride and Prejudice and Zombies a 7 out of 10 and look forward to the sequel, if there is one!

Jane Austen’s classic tale of romance gets a satiric horror twist in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The story follow a group of sisters who train to be warriors while also dealing with matters of love; meanwhile zombie hordes lay siege to London and roam the English countryside. Though based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s adapted novel, the film deviates greatly; attempting to be more of a standard zombie film. Lily James is extraordinarily good as Elizabeth Bennet, and brings a lot of charisma to the role. Sam Riley as Mr. Darcy on the other hand, is rather lackluster; which is in part due to bad writing, as the character and his backstory are extensively changed. Still, the zombie attacks and battles bring a lot of excitement to the film, and the makeup effects are quite gruesome. While it has some problems, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is irreverently fun and delivers plenty of thrills.

The zombie plot/twist translates onto screen remarkably well, and I loved how they incorporated a unique zombie plot into the original story (much better than the book, let's just say). Matt Smith stole the show, but I'm okay with that. This movie is just plain fun, with a lot of really dark undertones? Because, ya know, zombies.

I started watching this, unsure how Pride and Prejudice could work out with zombies... if at all...
And although the first ten minutes were something to get used to (mostly, I am guessing, an adjusting to the reality of the world we're presented), I was surprised to see how wonderfully it, in fact, did work out.
Sometimes a little over the top and silly, but I don't think it was made to be taken entirely seriously. Like the fighting scene between the sisters, and the "quarrel" between Darcy and Lizzy. Over the top indeed. Yet on the other hand, they did not sprinkle it with anything untowards like *gasp* kissing or other before engagements and the such, which gave me the impression it was still aptly fitting into its timeframe. And as that, I did thoroughly enjoy it. 7.8 stars.

What speaks more passionately of love than fighting back to back against a horde of zombies? I know not what.

So disappointing.
I wasn't the biggest of fans of the book (PPZ), but I still think it was much better than this. The Bennet Sisters in the book dominate in all fights they come up against. Here, they are described as skilled warriors, but rarely show it.
The plotlines are completely upended, with the concepts from a subplot about Charlotte being a semi-functioning zombie turned into the crux on which most of the latter plot depends. It's slow to get started, and then rushes through plot-points like it's going out of style. Also, Wickham is literally the Antichrist in this.
They were clearly setting up for a sequel with that mid-credits scene, but I think it's pretty clear that'll never happen.

I have not read Pride and Prejudice, nor have I seen any of the adaptations. I liked parts of this movie, but I think it would have hit harder if I had already been acquainted with the story.
As a positive, the movie shifts between tones effortlessly. It is all played very straight and balances tones of comedy, action, and drama without feeling out of place. The acting, and score are doing most of the heavy lighting.
For my zombie fans, this is an action zombie movie, not a horror movie. There are no scares, and it's very light on blood. I think the movie would have been better if it had gone for a longer runtime, and pushed the limit of the PG-13 to amp up the horror element.
Overall, it was good and I'll have to view it again after watching an adaptation of the original novel.
There is a mid-credit scene, so stick around for that.
