The Spiral

The first sequel to "Ringu" was released in Japanese cinemas at the same time as the first film. In retrospect, that was unquestionably the wrong move. Unlike the first installment, "Spiral" flopped and was quickly forgotten. Instead, only a year later, another sequel to "Ringu" was released, completely disregarding this film. But I wouldn't say that "Spiral" is that bad. I especially liked the atmosphere once again. However, the predecessor's pacing issues are even more pronounced this time; it became downright boring in places. The ending also didn't appeal to me. In addition, the look of the film doesn't measure up to the first part. On the plus side, at least most of the actors are still convincing, and there are even a few characters that are back from the predecessor. Overall, "Spiral" is still a barely acceptable sequel, but it's already significantly weaker than the first movie.
