I hated this slow, cerebral film as a kid. This time, though, it clicked with me a bit more. That's not to say it's a fun or exciting film, it really does drag. But this time I'm watching it coming off the original TV show for the first time, and I just really like spending time with these characters. It's a shame it's all so beige. Certainly, it has one of the best scores of any film, and I really liked the 3 minute opening musical overture.

Always appreciated V'Ger's fashion sense for Ilia - high rise robe and low-rise playboy pumps...I doubt either were Starfleet issued :slight_smile:

I’ve finished watching the 2022 Director’s Cut in 4K, and I stand by my adult original opinion from a few years ago: this is an ambitious hard-sci-fi mess that ham-fists its human meaning thrust unevenly throughout its narrative. The Director’s Edition improves the pacing and the 4K is gorgeous to view. There’s plenty of ship-porn!

This movie is hard to rate because the first hour or so is droning and boring with long extended shots of just visuals with no dialogue or anything happening. But the final act is just absolutely incredible and leaves you with a good taste in your mouth. It feels weird to rate a movie that I hated for the majority of it so highly but thats the feeling it leaves me with.

It's a first effort at adapting Star Trek to the feature film format, and it shows. Pacing is very slow for most of the film, only picking up near the climax.
