The Curse of Frankenstein

The best Hammer horror film I've seen so far. It's a retelling of the classic Frankenstein's monster, this time the focus shifts away from the creature itself and centering the story on Victor Frankenstein's journey instead, with added subplots of his twisted relationships. It has a great gothic feel to it. I love the set design, the score, and how vibrant the film looks. Peter Cushing plays Victor Frankenstein as a cruel and mad guy. It works wonderfully and there's no sympathetic tones to his performance. Christopher Lee's performance as the creature is also very impressive. He's truly evil but much less human than Karloff's. Love how the film also pushes some boundaries as well. The violence is really strong for its time and the first appearance of the creature genuinely shocked me. I'm impressed to see this different take on the story manages to stack up strongly against the iconic Universal Frankenstein while still being its own thing.
