It’s a coming-of-age story with very little to say that hasn’t been said in these kind of stories. I found it quite boring to say the least. It’s by the end that gets a bit interesting. I guess those who lived through those times in Spain would find a stronger connection because the film does rely heavily on nostalgia. Sorry, but not for me...

Like homework in your favorite class: fun but still pretty academic. This coming of age tale about an 11-year-old Spanish girl who learns why she lives alone with her mother is a nice trip down memory lane for Spanish Catholic schooltweens and not a bad trip for the rest of us. Extra credit: Andrea Fansos, the child actress who plays the lead, is an amazing talent. :raised_hands_tone2:

1992 was the year of the mirage in Spain, the lie of a modern country. An external representation, like the girls' choral playback. As a coming-of-age it cannot avoid falling in topics, but it portrays well the oppressive, castrating religious education. The relationship mother/daughter, more intense in the third act, is the most interesting part of the film. And that moment of rebellion with which the story ends.
