Roy and Gilbert's fishing trip takes a terrifying turn when the hitchhiker they pick up turns out to be a sociopath on the run from the law. He's killed before, and he lets the two know that as soon as they're no longer useful, he'll kill again. The two friends plot an escape, but the hitchhiker's peculiar physical affliction, an eye that never closes even when he sleeps, makes it impossible for them to tell when they can make a break for it.

A pair of friends on a fishing trip stuck inside a car with a psychotic killer on the run holding a gun in the back seat. Despite the simplicity of its plot, it's a very effective horror thriller as it runs a very tight 71 minutes with good doses of tension and manages to keep it to the very end, thanks to the score and claustrophobic atmosphere. What really sells the film for me is the performances from three lead characters. William Talman makes an intimidating villain while Edmond O'Brien and Frank Lovejoy are both good as his captives.

Excellent suspenseful film. Very well paced and edited, and the acting was very good. It's amazing to me that this film from 1953 has no problems with pacing; they knew how to edit—and act!—back then.
