The Money Pit

I'm rating this an unrealistic perfect 10 because the plot wholeheartedly resonates with me and my wife, as it likely will for many homeowners. We both saw this as children and thought it was funny. Then, we watched it as husband and wife, after remodeling our house. It was 10x funnier as adults because we could now relate to the obscene, over-the-top scenarios. The embellishment notwithstanding, similar things can **and do** happen when buying a house, remodeling a house, using contractors, and dealing with each other during said events. This movie helps add some levity to those ordeals after some time has passed, allowing you to, hopefully, look back on your experiences and laughingly tell each other, "At least we didn't have it **that** bad!"

A funny watch, almost entirely thanks to Tom Hanks. Hanks brings laughs as Walter, his comedic timing in this is pretty great. Shelley Long (Anna) does have her moments too. The premise is amusing and manages to stay fresh despite the somewhat repetitive nature of the events, what helps are the live effects used for the disaster sequences which are very nicely done. Even though it isn't poor, I do believe the dialogue could've been better to create more humour - some of it was a little lacklustre in parts. Going back to the cast, I completely didn't realise Wendell Pierce in his minor role - I actually did recognise the paramedic's voice instantly, just couldn't place the actor until the end credits. Cool guy. 'The Money Pit' is entertaining, it is one that is very much deserving of a view.
