I'm rating this an unrealistic perfect 10 because the plot wholeheartedly resonates with me and my wife, as it likely will for many homeowners. We both saw this as children and thought it was funny. Then, we watched it as husband and wife, after remodeling our house.

It was 10x funnier as adults because we could now relate to the obscene, over-the-top scenarios. The embellishment notwithstanding, similar things can **and do** happen when buying a house, remodeling a house, using contractors, and dealing with each other during said events. This movie helps add some levity to those ordeals after some time has passed, allowing you to, hopefully, look back on your experiences and laughingly tell each other, "At least we didn't have it **that** bad!"

Predictable but the physical comedy is fun to watch. I think you'd enjoy it if you like The Play that Goes Wrong.

A funny watch, almost entirely thanks to Tom Hanks.

Hanks brings laughs as Walter, his comedic timing in this is pretty great. Shelley Long (Anna) does have her moments too. The premise is amusing and manages to stay fresh despite the somewhat repetitive nature of the events, what helps are the live effects used for the disaster sequences which are very nicely done.

Even though it isn't poor, I do believe the dialogue could've been better to create more humour - some of it was a little lacklustre in parts. Going back to the cast, I completely didn't realise Wendell Pierce in his minor role - I actually did recognise the paramedic's voice instantly, just couldn't place the actor until the end credits. Cool guy.

'The Money Pit' is entertaining, it is one that is very much deserving of a view.

Every new homeowner's worst nightmare, as experienced by a pair of almost-average mid '80s DINKs. They sink a fortune into this place, a secluded estate that looks too good to be true and, of course, falls apart around them mere moments after key touches palm. Mid-lifers will find it easy to relate with this couple, played by Tom Hanks and Shelley Long, as they seem familiar and good-natured if a bit naive. Their ability to procure huge sums of money at the drop of a hat is a red flag, though, and the soapy complications of their personal lives actually serve to distance them from the audience. Hanks is a riot, especially when he descends into madness at the height of his misery, but Long may as well have been a wooden set piece. Try as he might, our leading man just can't draw a performance out of her and the duo's serious lack of chemistry is a problem.

Funny in a Seinfeldian car crash, looking-through-our-fingers kind of way, the plot skips over the moment where its players' fates shift from disaster to redemption and the payoff, as a result, feels flat.

Tom Hanks and Shelley Long star in the hysterical '80s comedy The Money Pit. The story follows a couple that buys a house together, and while at first they think it's a steal the place turns out to be a real fixer upper and tests their relationship. Hanks and Long are great together and give excellent performances. The comedy is also extraordinarily good and delivers some clever satire. Produced by Steven Spielberg, The Money Pit is a smart family film that's full of laughs.

The Money Pit hasn't really aged all that well, but it has its moments.

Both Tom Hanks and Shelley Long is funny in this one, but when it comes to early Tom Hanks Comedies you tend to expect that. The rest of the movie is ok, but it's a bit dated. Very 80s in the way people and things are portrayed.

For the time, it's actually very good technically. The use of lighting in this one is actually rather special.

Anyway...the movie is good enough for when you catch it on TV. Wouldn't really waste any money on it.

Not bad. Has a lot of funny moments. The story could have been a lot stronger, but this works cause of the great chemistry and comedic talents of Tom Hanks and Shelley Long, especially Hanks, who delivers some hilarious moments that had me cracking up hard, especially when Long is trying to plug her in kettle at Hank's expense (so funny).

Humor still holds up. Kids liked the physical, slapstick stuff.
