This had been on my list of shame for some time. I loved Nick and Nora in "Murder by Death" but had never seen the original. Sometimes the term classic doesn't really work. Movies don't hold up because tastes change...this is not one of those cases. A lovely murder mystery with great dialogue crackling between Myrna Loy and William Powell. Literally, every scene drags until these two show up and then...ZOWIE! I plan to watch the other installments, so take that as a recommendation. 7/10

@tkpnpodcast how did Nick deduced that Maccaulay killed Wynant and the others?

Fun and filled with booze loving detective work. As this is the early days of movies, the ending could use a bit of work considering the build up.

It's pretty witty and enjoyable, but the way the mystery wrapped up could've had a little bit more explanation.

William Powell and Myrna Loy carry this movie. His lax, uninterested exterior make it all the more interesting. It's murder mystery fun like you can only see in classics like this.

This movie was an absolute delight. First time seeing both William Powell and Myrna Loy, and I instantly fell in love. William Powell, in particular, has this easy, modern sort of charm that is indescribable. There’s a particular moment in this movie where Powell and Loy are in the background as another character takes a call. Powell points at Loy’s shift and then does the flip-your-nose gag, and then he cracks himself up. It’s a very small thing, but so charming.

Setting aside the chemistry between the leads, the mystery in the film isn’t half bad either. It takes some fun twists and turns, and watching Powell connect the dots is a reasonably good time. Will definitely be adding the rest of the Thin Man series to my watch list.
