I don't understand why this film is popular? Almost cartoonist variations of "gangs" and an 80's soundtrack might bring nostalgic for some? I was left feeling underwhelmed. I didn't care about the characters and they were left without growth. This is a "cult classic" I don't agree with.

@roswellgeek 80s soundtrack for a movie from the 70s is pretty good going.

Reminded me of the gangs in my old neighbourhood...

The Turn Coats, The Brown Coats and The Duffel Coats
The Nik Naks, The Paddy Whacks and The Give a Dog a Bones
The Smarty Pants, The Ants in Your Pants and The Sycophants
The Super Doops, The Loop the Loops and The Pooper Scoops

Back to the film...

Its good but dated. Seems more Hollywood fantasy of what gangs were like in New York. I'm no expert, I was part of the Book Worm gang in my town, but surely they were more violent than this? But what do I know?!

Why do people like this film? I saw Warriors once years ago when it was re-released on DVD (mid early 2000's) so maybe it's after my time, and I am missing the nostalgia factor? I just seriously don't understand what this movie had to offer, ever. I would love to hear what the various reasons are that people enjoy this film. Thanks much for your time.

I used to watch this movie in the 80’s as a teen…. I was obsessed with it. Years later it didn’t disappoint.

My expectations were very high considering its classic status and boy were they met. What a blast!
I can see why it's a favorite for people that grew up with it. The replay value is off the roof.
People saying it's dated or goofy are missing the point. It's called stylization! It's not meant to be a documentation of the era.

This really is the first ‘80s action movie. It’s interesting that it got referenced by _John Wick_, because both movies suffer from a lot of the same issues as far as I’m concerned. It’s very dumb and cheesy, which would be fine if not for the film’s tone refusing to embrace it to the extent that it should be (throwing in more comedy would’ve gone a long way). The acting and dialogue are lame, all of the characters are underwritten, it’s filled with tacky editing choices, the needle drops often don’t fit the scenes and it’s generally pretty uneventful. I like some of the stylistic choices (the synths in original score are actually pretty good) and cinematography, but passing the vibe check isn’t enough to carry a movie as far as I’m concerned.

The Warriors has dated a lot better than many things from 1979 - but the gangs look pretty naff compared to normal gangs now days. The acting, fight scenes and choreography are also a little past their best buy dates, but it is ok.

But kudos has to go to Mercy (Deborah Van Valkenburgh) who managed to spend most of her time on screen running in heels, at the same speed as the men, but never sweated.

This movie spoke more to me as a lifelong Lakers fan than it did a lifelong crime flick fan. I really found it more goofy than anything, but I had a lot of fun with it.

The whole film was shot at night with all roads jet washed to bring an eerie ness & gloom throughout. The blu-ray version truly now shows what the director sought. Seen it over 40 times and never gets tired. A true classic & in my top 3 films of all time.

Overrated. I've watched it twice now and many years apart and I still feel the same about it.

Watch the original Theatrical version. The Ultimate Directors Cut is garbage. Even tho the difference is only like 90 seconds. The original is still better.

One of my favorites. Period. It's a rousing, stylistic, masculine mash of ideas that could be considered a lot more dangerous and militant if the whole thing weren't soo comic book arch. But between the music, the costume design, and the set pieces, this is as entertaining as throwing on one of your favorite albums and just going along for the ride.

I really love this movie, the pace is great, there is always something going on that keeps the plot going. Also, I love how they didn't focus a lot on each character, because each person is not important for the story, so it is almost like The Warriors are a single character, you don't root for Swan, or Rembrandt, you root for The Warriors.
