Akira admires Genyo Kamiura, the most powerful yakuza. Genyo Kamiura has been targeted numerous times, but he has never been killed. He is called the invincible person. Because of Genyo Kamiura, Akira enters the world of the yakuza. His yakuza colleagues treat him like an idiot, and Akira can't even get tattoos because of his sensitive skin. An assassin is sent to take out Genyo Kamiura. The killers know that Genyo Kamiura is a vampire. Thus begins the apocalypse.

Martial arts with a man in a frogsuit is just one of the few bizarre things you'll see in this over the top yakuza/vampire movie. This might be one of the weirdest films of 2015 which might sound promising if you can endure the slow and sometimes not very interesting parts ...

This makes the third Miike I watched this year, he just never stops! The movie pairs his love for the Yakuza together with the bizarre. It doesn't take too long until you have Yakuza vampires, Kappas and doom in form of a frog zip-up costume on screen. It's all silly fun but could have used a trim in various places. More for those familiar with Miike than newcomers, else he would have needed to put a bit more though into all this. No idea why this screened at Cannes though.
