Like novelty socks, you think they're gonna be funny but then turn out to be normal and even stink a little bit? Based on what would seem to be fertile grounds for laughter (a man writes a semi-autobiographical novel about his family's secrets but then the book becomes famous and his family risk learning he's spilled the family tea) there's a lot of manure but not much coming from it. It's almost as if we can see the writers editing the script and cropping story lines as they go along because the story was too ludicrous and didn't look good on screen. What remains is a disappointing effort, though Tassadit Mandi as Youssef's mother was a pure joy to watch.
