Illyasviel von Einzbern is an ordinary elementary school student who becomes a magical girl when the magical Kaleidostick Ruby deems her a more suitable master than the sorceress, Rin Tohsaka. Rin, who had been tasked by the wizard Zelretch to collect the seven Class Cards containing the spirits of Heroic Spirits from legend, finds that she is unable to change Ruby's mind and must supervise Illya in completing the task of collecting the Class Cards. During Illya's adventures, she receives a friend and rival in a girl named Miyu, the contracted master of the Kaleidostick Sapphire, which similarly abandoned its original master and Rin's rival, Luvia Edelfelt.

As ManiacB said: This is very much one of the many ways they milked the Fate-franchise so if you have not seen the previous efforts I'd say check those out first because just watching this will not satisfy you. The show itself is a weird mix between magical girl comedy, more Fate-style battles and fanservice. The art varies in quality but the fights themselves are done good enough (Silver Link is no Ufotable though) and sometimes they seem to be padding the scenes a bit. It really is a lot better than one would expect but I could have done without the Yuri and the fanservices scenes as these are freaking little girls (there are steamy^2 scenes and imouto). The second part is supposed to be superior to the first so I'll be looking forward to this.

I should probably dislike this more, as it really does feel like they're milking the Fate franchise for all it's got. However, I found it quite enjoyable. The battles were pretty good and the Yuri not-so-undertones are fun too, if you're into that kind of thing... ;) A second season will be coming soon, so the story's not over yet!
