Well, this was quite an interesting experience. Especially when you’re used to the other Clone Wars series.

Animation-wise this one is very unique. Done by Genndy Tartakovsky (of Hotel Transylvania fame) the character design is unusual (I enjoy it all, but Padmé), movements are very over-the-top and backgrounds deliver a certain atmosphere. I really took it in easier than the 3D animation delivered in Clone Wars (2008) and Rebels.

Some voice actors would later return for the other Clone Wars series, other were new to me. Especially Mat Lucas as Anakin took time to get used to if Matt Lanter is stuck in your mind. I think he did a solid job with hot-headed teen Anakin, but I‘m still glad Lanter replaced him later on.

Since this is made of short web episodes (ranging from 3 to 12 minutes) it doesn’t develop characters or stories the same way other shows do, but it does offer interesting snippets into the Clone Wars itself (I especially enjoyed the piece about Anakin becoming a fully fledged Jedi Knight).

Another great addition, a truly villainous General Grievous. The first version of the character to take serious.

In conclusion, while 2008‘s Clone Wars focuses on the "Clones," individualizing them and developing other characters and relationships, this version focuses more on the "War" aspect. It delivers great battles and a surprising a lot of silence to just take everything.

I really enjoyed this Clone Wars as well as the other one.
