I could see the potential here, but I feel like they didn’t nail the adaptation, there’s certain madness, extravaganza, opulence to a telenovela (middle eastern or latina) that doesn’t translate that well to an american series, specially one with 9 episodes, so I was expecting something more hallmark like but instead we got people climbing down a building like if they were auditioning for Tenet (I’m never gonna get over how ridiculous that scene was), so I wished they grounded the show a little cause my favorite parts were just simple moments between the family.
It felt as if the show runners knew they were getting canceled and chose to pack 9 episodes with every possible storyline, and also they skipped a lot of fun, light hearted and romantic moments! I never saw the romance between Noa and Daniel, nor their relationship blossom, it was like BAM WE ARE DATING JUST BECAUSE!
I like the general idea, the cast, the characters, but I feel like the main issue was they didn’t got the time to properly develop it.
I hope ABC gets to see how they screwed it up by not believing in the show now that it’s been number 1 on netflix worldwide, like obviously a show with poor distribution is gonna have a low audience, duh.

This was exactly what I expected: a cute little show with family drama, complicated romance, but probably a little less baking than what I'd hoped.

Overall, it's not the type of show I'd watched going for hundred of seasons though I find it harsh that this was cancelled after one season when some shows have been on the air for yeaaaars.

The bad:

- There is nothing deep to find in the storylines and there is nothing to hope for in terms of new content. The 'disputes' that occur feel a little convoluted because the characters are all so damn nice and tolerant about everything. The drama was quite forced in a way reminiscent of telenovelas and it was hard to care about any of the fights as a happy resolution seemed almost certain.

- The main romance was probably the least interesting part of the plot. I don't blame both the actors which are quite charming but the Garcia family time was hard to top. I guess I don't care much about the celebrity world so the fantasy of traveling and doing extravagant things was lost on me. Also, I was annoyed that Daniel got swooped in and seemed to forget all his duties at the bakery and went on with Noa everywhere for a while.
- The whole show lacked some scenery shots of Miami. Considering the setting, the music and the mood fell a little flat.

- Also, not enough baking. Those were the best bits.

The good:

- All the characters are actually really nice. I mean, this was satisfying in a way because some shows tend to go overboard with bad or good people but no one is actually terrible in this one. Everyone has motives and goals and everyone's mature enough to take a step back and reflect. Natalie's probably too mature for her age though but since I have a profound dislike of teenagers in tv shows, I'm fine with her not quite acting 15.

- The actors were quite charismatic and sold whatever they could with what they had. Michelle Veintimilla (Vanessa) was amazing considering she had the most difficult part to sell to the audience. She managed to turn a seemingly manic girlfriend into the jilted girlfriend and more.

- The Garcia parents. I mean, can they adopt me? There was something really perfect (almost too perfect) about the characters and their relationship. I looooved seeing Carlos Gómez in that role, he was the stuff of dreams.

Overall, a very short and satisfying watch.
