Review Summary

Pros: imaginative afterlife trials; emotional flashbacks; flashy visual effects | Cons: uneven tone; long runtime; story feels shallow

Will You Like This?

You’ll likely enjoy this if you want a big, emotional fantasy with action, humor, and striking afterlife set pieces; Not for you if you dislike long runtimes, heavy melodrama, or a trial-based story structure like a moral courtroom.

Best Korean movie so far loved it.

good cgi, story really inspiring and lesson

Why can't Hollywood create interesting and unique movies like this one. Is this a perfect movie, no, does the justice system also suck in the afterlife, yes. However, this was still a very unique movie and pretty enjoyable.

A very touching movie. The story was built upon with a perfectly paced climax. There were absolutely flaws throughout the movie, but overall, I enjoyed the parable-esque nature of the film.

It starts like a sarcastic comedy, but then it turns into something quite emotional

I didn't think I would like this movie so much. It had everything I love in a good fantasy movie. The fantasy elements were very spectacular, even the fight scenes. There was excitement, there was no shortage of emotions, and there was even room for humor. They also chose the actors well, they played their roles very well. At times Ja Hong acted annoyingly. I'm looking forward to the sequel, especially since
the other brother was also revealed to be an "Immaculate Soul"
and many other events took place, which make it questionable what twists and turns they will lead to.

What an awesome film. It touched my heart too. 1. How they split the different part of his life, and in order of importance instead of chronological, that was a brilliant idea. It helped built the foundation of the story, the major message, while at the same time allowed them to insert other lessons along the way. 2. It was also not about the main character, but it also reflected the lesson for the other characters, most especially the senior grim reaper. 3. The CGI is perfect. If the CGI becomes ever more realistic, it would only distract the audience. If it was less, it would make the film cheap. It is important to strike the balance between eye candy and the message of the story. Well done. 4. Choosing to set this story as a film instead of a TV show, or an episodic film, was itself a good decision. Keeping it as a film guaranteed the focus remain true, instead of adding other side stories that can lessen the impact of the story (and even distract the audience).

wish they had a high sfx budget, but what they did with what they had was fucking amazing. was not expecting this movie to touch my heart the way it did, it was beautiful.

That was a touching movie,i found it by chance while scrolling through Netflix, I haven''t heard of it,so i watched and didn''t have any reference and it blow all my expectations.new story(Hollywood should take a lesson instead of the failed remakes), outstanding acting and it have action, fantasy and everything i love in movies,i will try to watch the sequel tomorrow, but I don''t think it will touch me like this one..

Another adaptation of a manhwa I started to read years ago but never found the ending. This basically Dante''s Inferno, but with the Korean version of hell. Just for that it''s very interesting if you''re not familiar with it. Obviously lots and lots of CGI. They''re not bad. Not excellent either. Let''s say most of them are fast enough to leave details to the imagination. It works good enough but probably better not to try to admire them in slow motion. The story itself starts ok. Ja-Hong dies. He''s going to get judged through seven hells to win his reincarnation. He''s such an example of virtue that it should be a breeze. Then a shocking crime is revealed... but it turns out it''s hiding him being even more virtuous than expected. Rinse. Repeat. Luckily they don''t keep this identical schema through the seven hells. Sadly they just totally skip several hells trials instead. It then mostly revolves around his brother until his final judgement. In the end it''s a little too full of goody goody feelings and would have gained to be more centered on hell and the way it works, but still an interesting watch.
