If you were bored with this movie then you were not paying enough attention. The detail put into the story (pay attention to what is happening in the background), film making (unbelievable pre-Gravity and pre-Birdman long takes), and philosophical concepts/allegorical criticism of our present day(watch the bonus features and documentaries on the DVD/BR).

The filming makes this movie worth to watch. There are some exquisite scenes, especially noteworthy is the (seemingly) single-shot scene where the main character has to rescue the pregnant lady from a building where the resistance fighters and immigrants hide and keep her captive. This while the building is surrounded by soldiers and tanks from the UK army. Note: I edited this comment bc i did not agree with my opinion from that time anymore, and I could not delete it fully.

Children of Men, a story and atmosphere so enthralling, that I consider it exemplary to science fiction.

One of the finest films ever made, full stop.

One of the few films I have watched that I actually found boring. Nothing happened that got me into the story also found the acting pretty bad.

Atmosphere and shooting is great. It makes you feel like you are in that dystopian world. On the other hand story is so poor that it makes you got bored. You can't even understand why the things are happening. Character development is poor. There is no back story of any of the characters. Also acting are so bad. What a missed opportunity. This movie could be a lot better with better acting and better storytelling.

A unique film, amazingly directed, with a simple, but powerful, plot protraying the importance of hope, in a near-dystopian setting.

The story development is very sluggish. But there are interesting plots and the shooting and violence are so realistic. If u can survive the first 20mins of the movie, u will appreciate the rest

In my opinion the film focuses a lot in '"fugees'" and their conflict, and should have revolved around the ethical quandary of infertility: you finally watch a bodyguard story instead. In spite of this, it''s really well done, with intrepid action and harsh atmosphere, what perfectly reflects the social situation. My favourite part: the secquence shot during the last building crossfire.

The directing and the details are amazing

So much attentions were put into the details of the film. From the surveillance streets of London with its Orwellian "Please Report Suspicious Activity" poster to the Bexhill of refugee where the unfortunate multiculturals are dumped in to the slums, marking their presence with graffiti. Released in 2006, it's as if the has already foresaw what happens a decade later with its take on the issue of refugee, the age pyramid problem, while still being a film of its age, characterized by post-9/11 distrust of the government, represented excellently by the most likely state nearing authoritarianism, Great Britain. I admit, however, that the film can be a bit tedious to watch at times. Character relationship gets a build-up just a moment prior their death. There were rather trivial shots; like of Theo wearing sandals, crossing the forests, etc where it spends quite a few seconds, kinda making the film runs longer than it should. These might be references to specific real-life events or arts, as it does reference a lot of things from Auscwhitz-inspired detainment camp to Michelangelo's La Pietas, but I didn't get it. Still, Children of Men manages to build a convincing world, and watching it as the events unfold was intense.

It's been eighteen years since the birth of the last human child and civilization is barely hanging on by a thread. Clive Owen and Julianne Moore, members of a violent resistance movement, find themselves escorting the holy grail - a miraculously pregnant woman - through the dregs of a dystopian badland. It's a great encapsulation of all the best elements of dark, future-gazing science fiction, hauntingly recognizable despite the distant timeframe. Owen is fantastic in a demanding leading role: part jaded worker-bee, part helpless victim, shattered widower, problem solver and action hero. The film moves incredibly quickly, delighting in its chances to shatter the illusion of tranquility with a jolting change of tone and fortune. One long, jaw-dropping shot in particular has stuck with me for years, even as details of the rest of the plot faded. If you've seen the film even once, you know exactly what I'm talking about. And despite that breakneck tempo, it still somehow manages to work in a wealth of world-building details and delicate character moments. The action scenes are intense and vivid, the moral quandaries deeply disturbing, and its tenor is right on the mark. Epic, powerful sci-fi that teases a post-9/11 distrust of the government without overdoing it.

Cuarรณn demonstrates prime command of his lens and script to pull off a poignant balancing act of raw optimism, cautionary tale, and religious fable. And as with all great art, his storyโ€™s content commands its form. Cuarรณn channels our empathy towards Theo, a pessimistic everyman suddenly thrust into a crusade to protect a pregnant woman from the grasps of an now-infertile Earth. As we witness his existential growth into a more faithful guardian, the director ensures we are never detached from the violent social unrest, making use of long tracking shots and an emphasis on closed spaces to encapsulate us in this detailed dystopia as well as provide a continuous aura of uncertainty and quiet melancholia...not without a quip or two to spare. By relying on a simplistic narrative framework to communicate its more complex themes, the film is beautifully Aesopian in its storytelling. Itโ€™s through Theoโ€™s passing interactions with both sides of the populace, rather than exposition, that provide further enlightenment on the oppressive society and its immoral attitudes. With this also comes Biblical enlightenment, with Cuarรณn making figurative, sometimes ironic, use of classic fable archetypes to provide musings on the power of faith over mere chance and ultimately use the motherโ€™s journey as a powerful allegory of the coming of Christ: a savior that will bring forth hope, justice, and peace. And without Theo, his own savior, what wouldโ€™ve been the fate of children of men?

Wicked. I went in totally blind and what a surprise. Solid concept and so incredibly layered, ***Children of Men*** is a terrifying look at humanity without children (hope) and now living on fear, this leads to even more war and xenophobia. Most of the characters here are living on instinct, human nature, and it's so fascinating. Some live on self preservation while others are willing to sacrifice themselves to protect hope. The secondary characters don't really get much depth but they absolutely work here because of the human nature aspect, I got immediately attached to anyone who was there to protect. Theo is very easy to root for once Kee is introduced. He feels pretty fleshed out as a character but I wanted more character development with Kee. I was a little bored at the beginning but it got my undivided attention during a certain car ride, it surprised the hell out of me. Great car chase and unexpected violent deaths. Then it kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I didn't expect it to turn into a straight out action movie but damn, those war sequences were so intense and well-made. Great cinematography. Good performances. So realistic it's scary. Perfect ending and choice of sound once the credits roll. >*"Pull my finger!"*

One of the bleakest, most magnificently crafted films of all time. The dialogue is one-of-a-kind in actually capturing realism.
