A young expat living on the fringes of Tokyo is suddenly killed during a police raid, and the story follows a drifting, out-of-body perspective through memories, the immediate aftermath, and the lives left behind. As the experience moves between past and present, it becomes a disorienting, emotional journey through grief, guilt, and connection.

The visuals/cinematographic aspects of this film are excellent and really show imagination and push the film in the direction where it is meant to go. However, the characters are nearly all complete pieces of shit who I don''t care about in the slightest. The main guy has absolutely no presence at all, which may or may not be intentional but it''s still irritating and if it was intentional then it failed miserably at sucking me into his position. Paz De La Huerta plays these annoying bitchy characters far too well. The French guy is actually pretty cool but he''s only in like 30 minutes of the movie. The philosophy that this movie centers around is the most pretentious bullshit imaginable. I''m no prude but the sex scenes in this movie are absurd and could have been done in a million better ways. There are also certain things that this movie does that are overly irritating. Yeah I get it, the strobe lights and that disgusting abortion scene are supposed to irritate me but they just go too far and those goddamn car crash simulations are practically giving me PTSD. Long story short, I respect the imagination, directing talent, and effort that Enter the Void showcases but I fucking hate this movie. Oh, and the best part is the Beginning credits

What a crazy movie! You have to be on something to enjoy it.

I don''t have the words to do justice to this film. Clearly you''ll either love it or hate it. Definitely visually stunning 'amp; I watched it sober as a judge. I think watching this high would take away from the experience. I found it interesting that there was very little dialogue or music, and it was all very muffled anyway (I turned subtitles on in fact), yet visually it was an assault on my eyes. It reminded me of the idea that when one sense fades, another increases, like blind people who have extra acute hearing, for example. Not an easy enjoyable experience, but well worth the effort.

"DMT only lasts for six minutes, but it really seems like an eternity. It releases the same chemical your brain receives when you die. It's a little like dying would be the ultimate trip." Enter the Void is like 2001: A Space Odyssey but a nightmarish drug trip that escalates into the void of desolation. The camera floats around and above the characters, and we sometimes jump between the past and the present. Just imagine a ghost with a god eye. It’s shocking and depressing and doesn’t stop until the end. It’s an experience like no other - an experience I would never like to revisit. Either way, it is one of the best.

Must be my short attention span or something but +2.5 hours of floating in and out of shit starts to get on your tits. As others have said though, probably way better watching this when on something... anything. :D

This flick glamorizes the drug scene. Watch carefully. Before watch Drugstore Cowboy and Trainspotting

I would never ever watch this movie again. Tripping or not.

The presentation was good overall, but the camerawork always made you feel detached from the movie, not that there was much story to follow anyway. Purposely slow, probably because that''s arty and anti mainstream? Yeah, it does go after a certain crowd. The kind that will name drop this movie to be taken seriously. The guy who dies, what a boring life in flashbacks. There''s always some obvious psychedelic imagery as if to yell ''hey, were a cool on drugs movie'', like thats supposed to add artistic value. Felt like a big drug = art cliché. I can imagine people saying you need drugs to appreciate this movie. That would be another cliché. Randon sex or flesh to try and be daring art? It''s too conscious of trying to be artistic so it''s taken serious, and it''s this objective that left it cold.

That had to have been the trippiest movie ever.

Wouldn’t say that Gasper Noe is the best filmmaker working today (i give that to Park Chan Wook), but he is up there. And his style is amazing. So refreshing to see someone experiment in ‘major’ films. And in this case it works. I was actually expecting to hate it as I don’t like movies about drugs and cant stand anything psychedelic. But it is one of the best films of the century so far. 8/10. Might give it higher after i have had time to reflect on it more.

Enter the Void. This is definitely one of the most original movies I've ever seen. The entire movie is like one giant trip. You experience the world through the eyes of drug dealer who gets killed, and after he dies, you wander the Earth as his soul, watching the drama unfold between the characters whose lives were affected by this tragedy. The actinng from the main character and Paz de la Huerta were great as well as many of the supporting actors. The cinematography was fantastic with many shots that made me think "How in the hell did they accomplish that?" Time and effort was definitely put into this movie to make it as fluid and trippy as possible. I have to of course talk about the use of colors in this movie. The director did a great job to use color as much as possible to not only contrast the situation the characters were in but to also match with the emotions being felt and the create a sort of ethereal vibe to the entire movie. Each choice the director made for color was meaningful and very welcomed on my part. It also has one of the best opening credits of any movie ever. This is a must see.

Gotta say I totally love the trippy, neon, psychedelic aestethic, the locations, and also the idea of shooting in this "ghost" 1st person subjective. But, there is a massive problem with the story and how it develops, and the problem is that there is no story. At all. And when there is not a story to develop, an almost 3 hours movie is a real baaad move. In the first 30 minutes it's all fascinating, the dialogues, the situation, but at some point it looks like no one had a decent idea on how develop and close the movie, so everything keeps going on, and on, and on. Until it became redundant, and even boring. And (my personal opinion) a psychedelic movie that results boring, well, looks like a failure. I mean it could have been an original, interesting movie, even a game-changer, but in the end a nice idea and some cool shots can't save it. It lacks too much of other things. The impression is that it is all too pompous, too self absorbed in the idea of creating something so cool, so edgy, so unconventional and provocative, that all this just became a style exercise with no purpose at all.

Enter the Void is not a film set out to entertain nor make you feel at ease with yourself and your surroundings. It has quite revolting and daunting imagery; the cinematography feeling nothing other than bizarre, fantastical, perverted and ominous. It’s a shock! Definitely an extreme replica of a psychedelic trip. You never get a break from feeling uncomfortable staring at this “life after death” theme occurring right before your eyes. But did I enjoy the film? First of, Gaspar Noé is an incredible director often challenging what film is set out to be; creating remarkable twists to his work quite often. Enter the Void definitely felt like a drug experience: it’s not a film set out to be listened to and watched but felt much more like music is supposed to be felt through your body too, impacting your emotions. It’s never just about the listening. It’s a physical and emotional experience. I gotta say though quite intelligent, really making me feel that impact psychedelic drugs can take on you, this film was quite a stretch making it at times extremely dull to watch. I recommend anyone who is questioning watching this to do so, yes, please. However don’t go into it expecting to be entertained. I almost feel like this is a film that could be put out at an art exhibition, having its audio play as we look around the room of the other arts would be really interesting to me. Watching the entire thing put together for 3 hours is a bit too much for me to rewatch. But it definitely is in a way very amazing cinema. Just a different kind of amazing.

The tragic demise of a young drug dealer who, after witnessing his life flash before his eyes, embarks on a tour through the streets of Kabukicho, spying on the aftermath of his passing while seeking an opportunity for reincarnation. I must confess that I remembered the film as a much more psychedelic spectacle and a significantly less melancholic and depressing experience. Perhaps the weight of age on my shoulders is helping me feel the void more? The underlying plot, albeit fragmented and worth less than twenty minutes, is subordinate to its portrayal onscreen—a masterful fusion of immersive subjective long takes, evocative glimpses into the protagonist's past from behind his shoulders, and swirling shots that seamlessly oscillate between arthouse and filth exploitation. Despite the janky CG used for the computer-generated aerial perspectives and wide-angle shots, the overall visual presentation continues to feel innovative and impactful, continually capturing the viewer's attention. Nonetheless, the latter half of the film languishes in its excessive length, diluting the overall impact of the experience. Furthermore, the way the protagonist meets his demise feels a little far-fetched, if not outright ridiculous - although it could all be interpreted as a massive drug-induced hallucination under the influence of the book borrowed from the French guy. Not that it matters.

Some of the best story writing paired with the most insane, trippiest, mind-fucking visuals I’ve ever seen. 5/5. Did I love it? Duh. Would I watch it again anytime soon? HELL NO.
