A great base idea. The whole pre battle part, where everyone is casually discussing counter measures to hellish entities, with the new neighbours believing it is a joke, is real fun. When it starts, well, I would have liked a bit more seriousness, instead of the [spoiler]everybody but them dies[/spoiler] scenario for comic effect. Like, more people, real defence, maybe some heroic actions. I mean, maybe Lucas fucks it up early, but even before that,someone dies in the first seconds, at the first attack of the first monster. This highly contrasts with the "nobody died for years" we're being sold. Would have like more monsters, and more counter measures. They surely take their sweet time between waves. It takes a bit too long for Lucas to step up., this really slows the action down. But otherwise, yep, stupid jokes, funny gore, and the movie doesn't drag it too much, great entertainment value.

Hold the Fort rockets through a HOA party where a portal to hell opens and rubber monsters spill out. New homeowners at an equinox shindig join forces with a pint‑sized folk hero, guns and gore fly, and the film keeps the jokes and carnage coming. At just 74 minutes it never overstays, leaning into creature‑feature fun with charm and pace. Cheap in the right ways and cut to the bone, it’s the perfect midnight palate cleanser. [Fantasia '25] Following the tradition of horror films set in suburban neighborhoods, this genre mashup moves from dark comedy to gory nonsense with considerable skill and without hiding its references, especially the films of Sam Raimi. Using traditional elements of horror comedies, from singular demons to imaginative artifacts, it manages to entertain while having as its undercurrent a certain ironic look at the middle class, which has been losing ground in American society due to growing inequality. It's funny enough to forgive some of the poor effects, while still maintaining its B-movie tone.
