Review Summary

Pros: a few solid scares; classic found-footage vibe; some creepy moments | Cons: slow first half; unlikeable characters; little backstory explained

Will You Like This?

You’ll likely enjoy this if you’re into low-budget found-footage haunted-house stories with a few chills and can be patient with a slow build, like The Long Night; Not for you if you hate shaky-cam or want lots of explanation.

Movies shot with that camera angle are terrible for me. I got dizzy watching them, and I didn't understand a thing anyway. What were they trying to do? What a ridiculous movie. Can't a camera ever stay still? My brain is gone. I couldn't focus on anything from the camera. Don't watch it; it's a waste of time.

If I had to compare it to anything, it would be a film equivalent of watered-down fecal matter.

I went into House on Eden completely blind and was immediately caught off guard when two familiar comedic faces showed up in what’s supposed to be a horror film. That surprise aside, the movie quickly settles into a familiar rhythm—it’s essentially a Blair Witch Project knockoff, and while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it doesn’t do much to separate itself from the found footage pack. The atmosphere is decent, and there are a few creepy moments that land, but the pacing drags and the plot often feels thin. As someone who’s never been a huge fan of this particular style of horror, this one just didn’t connect. Serviceable for fans of low-budget found footage, but not something I’d revisit. Rating: 1/5 – 55% – Would Not Recommend

This wasn't terrible, I did a little research on the cast. The main actress is a big social media influencer and did this movie for her followers and with her friends in 7 days. Considering that I think they did a great job for the first time out.

If you grade on a curve, considering its micro budget, this is quite an achievement. The directing is quite strong; the scares and tension are well built and effective. It's not reinventing the wheel, and the acting is... not great. The writing could use some work, though I suspect a lot of the dialogue was improv. There is enough here to make me want to see what the crew can do with more money and a tighter script, but I can't in good conscience recommend it as an exceptional movie in general.

Go and stand in a queue at Argos for an hour instead, you'll get a similar experience. This was bad. So, so bad. Absolutely nothing happens until the last 10 minutes. There's barely any horror to speak of. When you think it's about to pick up and go somewhere it drops right back down again. "House on Eden" is what happens when social media personalities decide they can make horror films, apparently without bothering to watch any horror films first. It's 78 minutes of my life I'll never get back, and frankly, I'm considering sending an invoice to everyone involved for time theft.

Wtf was that. Everything about this movie was filled with millennial influencer humor and acting because I found a lot of the aspects of this movie terrible. The horror was also just loud noises. Can easily tell this was an indie movie and I can’t knock it for that but you can tell the production value was not all there. The characters also just did absolutely stupid things like after all this stuff is happening why would you just fall asleep in a random bed all alone in a dark room. The one thing I will say is the ending of this movie was very unexpected and I actually found it pretty cool although it obviously had some hereditary and midsommer influence.
