100 Meters - Comments & Tips
The end though... :/ I hate open-ended conclusions
Almost 2h for that shitty ending
Two boys meet at school when very young and start a lifelong competition in the 100 meters race. Along the way they meet older runners that give them advice on running and the philosophy of life. But the older runners are just as confused as the main protagonists, so their life advice can come across as incoherent or vapid, and is really nothing more than a temporary impression gained from what is going on in their own lives. Surprisingly, those vapid, narcissistic, scatter-brained, and at times surreal pieces of advice from the older runners were the most interesting for me: older people trying to distill their life experience into pearls of meaning, and then trying to pass the wisdom that they glimpsed onto the younger generation. But their wisdom really was mostly empty streams of consciousness --- except for the #1 runner who retired at the very end (and who may have thrown his last race): being constantly alone as the #1, without peer, is just as lonely as being alone in last place. May The Lord give us all companionship in our worldly trials.
seven point two out of ten
I was unfamiliar with this manga until I saw the trailer a few weeks before the film came out and it seriously caught my eye. The film was even better honestly than I could have expected. As sports anime go, this is absolutely top tier and for me this just narrowly misses out on a 10/10. The author's art style is a little but unorthodox so the character designs may be a little offputting for some, but trust me -- it's worth it. The way they present the climax of the film is absolutely fantastic.. I was completely rapt.
