Overview
Ukraine, 1996. 5 months before the moratorium on capital punishment, two old friends, a police detective and a forensic psychiatrist, investigate a murder of their colleague. Long time ago, both of them were in love with the widow of the deceased. Immersed in the complicated case and long forgotten memories, they create a future where their children have to live, inheriting unrealized aspirations of their parents.

[New Horizons FF] The film connects two outbreaks of the same violence that occur at different times, and that later find a link. But it focuses mainly on a supposed last execution of the death penalty in Ukraine in 1996, providing a documentary texture with video cameras of the time, which is reinforced by the directing style, mainly supported by long shots taken from a distance. , and with the constant use of slow zooms in and out. The executioner's shot is as aseptic as the one that occurs twenty-five years later in a bedroom, because violence is already rooted in society.
