Lovesong - Comments & Tips
Not much of a lovesong, more like a boringsong.
The ending made me ask what was the point of the movie
A simple yet poignant romance. A story of two people yearning for a love that is destined to be doomed. Authentic acting and meandering pace complement each other for a good tone. A more directional handling of its themes could have enhanced it. Nonetheless, the emotional restraint of the narrative is captivating.
Lovesong is a low-budget indie drama thatโs disjointed and aimless. Thereโs no real story as such, but rather two vignettes in which two friends are there for each other when they need each other most. The characters and their relationships are ill-defined and most of the film seems unscripted. Additionally, while Jena Malone gives a solid performance, Riley Keough is dead weight. Barely coherent gibberish, Lovesong is a waste of time and film.
At its heart, this is a tender and sad tale. However, I struggled with the film. Too many irritating moments muted the overall experience for me, which is a pity, as there was potential for something deeper and more powerful.
The end could have been so much better ...
Budget version of Disobedience (which is ironic considering Lovesong by The Cure is used in that film) without any religious themes. It''s decent, I guess, but it lacks a point and it meanders too much. Good soundtrack, though.
I watched this because it has Jena Malone in it, but was sorely disappointed. I strongly dislike when
cheating is glorified.
