It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but it wasn't good either. It's a tubi original so go into it with adjusted expectations and you'll enjoy most of it. It dragged a bit and probably could have been better with a 1 hr and 20 minutes runtime instead. The lead did a good job, but the mom was a little over the top with her acting. The final act was a bit of a joke and pointless, and the twist was dumb and unnecessary. The twist kinda ruined the movie for me, but it was worth a watch and go.

Blind dates and personal ads have long been fertile soil for thriller movies, and the proliferation of dating apps has only accelerated the trend. Match, a Tubi original directed by Danishka Esterhazy (best known for the clever and entertaining Slumber Party Massacre requel in 2021), attempts to stand out among the plentiful fish in this sea not by subverting the genre or saying something profound; but through its batshit enthusiasm for throwback grindhouse shock. Match wants you to squirm, and never cuts away from the disturbing. There’s a certain levity to the absurdity, the “they really went there?” distancing the audience from the horror. Not Psycho Goreman levels of insanity, not Martyrs levels of self-seriousness, but something more palatable and fun in between. Read more here: https://substack.com/home/post/p-179006958

A lot better than I expected. This goes beyond your usual blind date/online dating horror films. A lot of shocking and uncomfortable scenes.
