Supposed to be the Japanese answer to Star Wars. Well, definitely a fail. The effects are pretty poor. Maybe not that bad for the time, but Star Wars was revolutionary on that. The spaceship look nice, as long as they don't move, but that's about it. Most of the characters are empty shells, and there are too many. The pacing is horrible. A lot of things happen but never giving enough time or gravity to really be invested in them. Characters change their mind from hero to traitor or disabused loser, back to hero, but it's hard to care about it. The general and his robot provides quality comic relief but what I assume is the comic character, Jack, is just super annoying. The seeds thing is not really convincing. In fact, it's probably what creates a huge flaw in the movie. The characters are randomly chosen by the seeds instead of wanting, or growing into their roles. Can't say the action scenes or space battle are able to compensate either. They're really low budget level. Because nothing is focused enough to feel important, neither the characters, nor the background story, nor the plot, nor the visuals, nor the action, the movie feels way longer than it actually is.
