Mother Holly - Comments & Tips

I always enjoy DEFA fairy tale films, especially at Christmastime with my family. This year, I watched "Mother Holly" on TV. And this adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale definitely has the charm that I associate with DEFA productions and that modern German films in the genre somehow fail to achieve. It doesn't even matter that the acting is a bit exaggerated and the sets are very sparse. Because the mood, which is conveyed by the music in particular, is just right here.
