Scalpel - Comments & Tips
I think the best place to start with _Scalpel_ is by explaining the genre: I would not call this a horror movie, it's more of a clever mystery that takes elements from horror/thrillers. Once you strip away the details, the core of the movie is about a doctor who has devised a plan to take money that was bequeathed to his daughter. Doesn't exactly scream horror. Now, that being said, there are elements of body horror early on, and the ending has a strange moment that could qualify as horror too. There are few deaths within, and almost all of them are from natural causes. Again, not exactly what I'd call horror. The real star of the show here is Judith Chapman in the dual role of Heather, and Jane. I honestly thought twins were cast, but no, one person, and nothing but seamless interactions. I can't think of any other films as a comparison, so I'll simply recommend this to anyone who likes murder mysteries. The movie is very unique, surprisingly playful, super '70s, and an entertaining ride from beginning to end. Totally worth a watch.
