'"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anybody?โ€

Who doesn''t love this movie!? Stephen King rocks!

Stand by Me is, and always will be, a timeless coming of age film that is never diminished by subsequent viewings. It is a career high point for the four young leads and will forever stir sadness at the loss of River Pheonix at such a young age. Though set long before my time, these friends are my friends. We had the club house, we went looking for adventure, we laughed together and were there for each other when things were hard. True friendship makes a lasting impression and this film stirs those memories. Stand by Me is as poignant today as it was 25 years ago and is simply must see, or see again.

Besides the acting of the child actors, which is very good and is a remarkable achievement, the movie is boring as hell and totally overrated.

Beautiful coming of age story with great actors and great music.

I loved the movie, it was very good overall, but I found it curious that I feel like I'm not the target audience since I'm still a teenager. I'm not saying that's a bad thing; the movie deals with friendship during our childhood, the nostalgia of those moments, the magic they held. For me, it's geared towards a more adult audience for whom those moments are very distant. Since I remember them recently, I don't feel as much of an impact watching the movie. I'll watch it again in a few years.

Very good acting when they were kids at that time, nice story that shows friendship. I think it''s a bit overated thought, solid 7.5 stars.

'"it happens sometimes, friends come in and out of our lives like busboys in a restaurant!'"

Being a child of the 80''s, I still remember hearing that River had died...this was the first time an actor us kids were familiar with had passed away, especially one so close in age to us.. This movie still gets me choked up after 30 damn years...a true gem....now, Chopper....sick balls

Stand By Me is the most beautiful film ever. This is honestly an 80โ€™s MASTERPIECE! I felt myself wanting to go back in time to hang out with my childhood friends. What I really enjoyed about this film was how the tone of the film would change so smoothly and perfectly through comical, sentimental, adventurous, making you reflect on your own childhood, and such topics. The cinematography was stunning and so aesthetically pleasing. However, one of the things that engaged me the most about this film was the beautiful relationship between Chris Chambers (River Phoenix) and Gordie Lanchance (Wil Wheaton). It is a demonstration of a much desired friendship and relationship by many individuals and something that I have been looking for my entire life. Having someone who always supports you when you are down and who is more of a sibling/a parent to you than anyone else because of their endless amount of authenticity and generous support is what my 12 year old self has always fantasized and I honestly still do. Chris and Gordie have a relationship with such feelings that obtain much more than what good friends have . There is so much true, tender love and attentiveness between both of them. They share a very special bond and both characters complement each other so carefully and nice. They are both in lack of family support and constantly go out of their way to treat each other like family. Chris Chambers was such an astonishing and graceful characterโ€”River Phoenix presented to the audience such an incredibly beautiful portrayal of the character, leaving us with such a strong desire of a friend like him. I have an endless love and special place in my heart for Phoenix. He made me fall in love with Chris at the age of 9, and growing up I came to the realization that the actual actor was an angel and as genuine as Chris.
The death of Chris Chambers was extremely sad, yet it was still righteous. He died in a heroic form, representing his true authentic self and individual identity.
I will, however, forever be saddened by the death of River Phoenix. He was extremely talented and an original and sincere special being. The ending of Stand By Me makes me sooo fucking sad, as we come to a realization of reality, and how we cannot stay young forever, and we will eventually grow up. Everything about this film was golden!! The actors were insanely talented and sooo real. The script was amazingly well written. Overall, one of my favourite movies ever.==10/10==

Oh my gosh I canโ€™t lie the acting was shit, like it was so bad like the fake crying and shit like bro no. But the story line was cute, their friendship so adorable. I hate that they werenโ€™t friends for long like I know that happens but they were just so fun together. Can I just say Chambers brother were so hot like Chris Yessssss so hot and his brother eyeball oh my gosh their fake family have some good genes. The ending for Chris was sad man like how he died like shit he was trying to help then got stabbed in the neck. Also the fact Chris and Gordies friends went to like they were the best I loved them. The leeches scene oh my gosh it was on his dick would that now hurt and the blood oh my days. But yeah that whole journey was shambles from the no food, to the train and having to jump out the way to when the older guys came me. I knew the gun was going to come out like cmon now. :joy::joy::joy: but like what they did was cute how they sent in an anonymous call instead. After all that as-well. But yeah. Also gordies life was sad man like how his brother dies and his parents just ignore him like cmon he lost someone too. I hope he got his hat back cause like his brother gave it to him. But yeah the film was very sweet I liked it. Especially the ending with the actually song. Stand by me and darling darling stand by me. One of the main reasons I choose to watch it cause I saw them watching it on euphoria. But it was actually really good.

Thereโ€™s a line at the end of this that asks whether or not weโ€™ll ever have better friends in our lives than we did at the age of twelve? Spouses notwithstanding, itโ€™s probably quite a fair assertion as illustrated by these four lads. They are from different sides of the tracks, literally, in a small town Oregon where a lad their own age has gone missing. Determined to do their bit to help - and fuelled by a slightly morbid curiosity - โ€œChrisโ€ (River Phoenix), โ€œGordieโ€ (Wil Wheaton), โ€œTeddyโ€ (Corey Feldman) and โ€œVernโ€ (Jerry Oโ€™Connell) set off to see if they canโ€™t become the heroes of the hour. They are not the only glory hunters, though, as โ€œAceโ€ (Kiefer Sutherland) and his bunch are also on the hunt. Will either of them win out? That in itself isnโ€™t really very important. What this film does depict is a potent observation of just how these four lads conduct themselves for the few days we spend with them. Like any group of friends, some are closer to some than others; they are of an age where they are beginning to hit puberty and obsess about sex but most of all there is an inter-reliance that all of them think is bound to last for ever. Helped along by a sparing soundtrack, the really quite sharp dialogue gives all of them their moment in the sun, but I thought it was ultimately Wheaton who emerged the strongest from these four individuals. Itโ€™s not without itโ€™s fun. Itโ€™s excess of leeches, cherry pies and castor oil; some cheeky and amiable banter throughout and the occasional intervention from the older Sutherland reminds us that their lives, at this stage, are at the start of a rite of passage that is akin to rutting with their more physically stronger rivals. I donโ€™t think this is a coming of age drama in any traditional sense. I think it more a mobile fly on the wall look at how important friendship and loyalty can be when people are of an age where they think the world is upon their shoulders instead of being their oyster. Time hasnโ€™t done it any harm, either, and after almost forty years itโ€™s still a poignant tale about the intensity of, and need for, companionship.

Ok everyone - this is a 80's kid about kids, but don't think it is like the others as it is a Stephen King adaptation. It isn't for kids - unless you want to traumatize them. Coming of age at a high price, what makes this a special one on that decade. A solid 8.2 out of 10.0 / A in my score.

My all-time favourite movie! Like Gordie, I was a shy, sensitive boy, who was (and am) a writer, and I've been told by so many people I have a talent for it. Also, I've had many friends like Chris, being tough on the outside, while sweet on the inside, and I've known people like Vern, Teddy and Denny too :) Beautiful music, acting and truth about growing up, as relevant today as it was in the 80s/50s :) <3
