[Veoasecan] Fernando Franco's foray into the introspective thriller genre ends up being his most obvious film, constructing a puzzle-like narrative that attempts to withhold certain revelations, but, like the pointless opening tracking shot, its destination is predictable. There's an undercurrent of psychological abuse that aims to be unsettling but feels forced, and an animal cruelty scene meant to define one of the characters that proves unnecessary. It's a film that glances at Michael Haneke but lacks the depth of his work.
