So.... I saw the trailer for this some time ago and it did seem incredibly stupid but also intriguing. A russian Avengers? Why not! But after the floods of bad reviews and press it got everywhere I watched this expecting the absolute worst. And you know what? Going into it like this actually made it all the better. Sure, it was still incredibly stupid, littered with holes and nonsense but ALSO with some pretty good action sequences, some decent creativity and while many were complaining about bad CGI I think this was incredibly well done for a movie with a paltry budget of only $5 Million?!? Not sure why this is supposed to be one of the WORST movies of all time if you believe some, I certainly was entertained and had some good laughs, even if only at some of the incredibly stupid things in it. :D But yeah, don''t write this movie off. Watch it while expecting the absolute worst and you MIGHT be pleasantly surprised. I''m kinda looking forward to part 2 now. :x
I was very pleasantly surprised, definitely above Doom, Cobra, etc class of movies. It'' doesn''t have a genre behind it like Marvel, but it seems to have a good X-Men like origin for a single story as a movie. Fun stuff.
A good concept that just does not have a story to back it up. Also no team chemistry.
A good try but not really a great one. It felt very randomly and incoherent, the story was too poor. I liked the visuals though. If you are into superheroes movies just see it and don''t expect much.
They could have focused more on it and done better, but they didn't. They continued with a very classic script. The acting is bad, but the effects are a bit nice. Whether it's worth watching is a matter of preference. I can't say watch it because it's not that good a production, but if you like this kind of production, give it a chance.
This movie lacks personality. But you gotta give ''em credit for the special effects.
People are biased. They''re giving a bad rating just because this is not a Disney movie and because it''s Russian, let''s be honest. For a production without a multimillionaire budget it was surprisingly good. Of course the CG sometimes it''s ridiculous, but after some time, you kind of forget about it. The action and fight scenes are really good. I really appreciated the Villain; he''s not only strong, he''s cleaver and intelligent. I hope there''s a continuation, cause I am willing to wait for it. Me and my family had a great time watching it.
فیلمی که قهرمانهایی بجز قهرمانهای مارول را بوجود آورده بود. thank you Shahnam M Nazar
Obviously a fairly large budget went into this movie, but they failed to spend any real money on decent actors. Pain, fear, shock and awe just revolve around the opening of the mouth (especially from the hot invisible chick). Bear man looked ok when he was a bear man, and when he was a man. The transmorphing was bit questionable. Even more questionable was the fact that when he went full bear (twice in the same final big battle), his trousers were ripped apart where he increased in size. Both times when he then appeared in man form, he had trousers back on. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he didn’t just have his junk dangling about, but continuity is important. Subtitles seemed like they were written by a Neanderthal, with lines such as “but I realise the change me” and “tonight the painful and embarrassing”. Aside from criticisms, it was a fairly enjoyable movie, however I won’t ever be watching it again. Plus, invisible chick is hot.
It’s very “Russian”. Not a whole lot of dialog. Some good action scenes. Needs more world building or background. It’s decent but definitely on the “meh” side

Just imagine you were making the Avengers but didn't have any of the rights to it and you also didn't really have much time to come up with these things Story Characters Backstory Music Now imagine instead you spent a lot of your time on these things CGI A transformation sequence of a man bear turning into an actual bear It's like budget Avengers and it's bad but not bad in the good way like The Room is so bad it's good. I will admit there were a few times I was like whatttt though it was mostly due to the absolute stupidity of the plot or the ineptitude of the heroes in this film. There's basically only 1 bad guy and the good guys get caught almost instantly by his henchman. I'm not sure these are the heroes the generic military organization really need to sort out the world's ills. The heroes themselves are kind of bland even if on the surface they have potential, you have 1. Man who can turn into a bear man or can turn into a full bear. Once you give him a mini gun he's about as effective. Oh and it auto targets when he's in bear form so why have it manually target at all normally? Oh and the bad guy can just punch him and knock him out 2. Rock guy, he can control earth and stones and what not, he can also go half the thing if he wants but he can't obviously cover himself entirely in stone. They upgrade his suit so he has some rocks built in along with a whip that I guess has stones in it that uses electromagnets to cut his enemies. Oh and the bad guy can just hit through his rocks and knock him out then break his spine. 3. Fast guy with blades who can basically run faster than a bullet and cut people up but is almost instantly hit with a sleep dart. Then they upgrade his suit so it has quite a large codpiece. The bad guy just punches him even though technically speaking he should be able to dispatch him with no problems. 4. Invisible lady has forgotten her past and now she's joining up to fight for the chance of getting that memory back. So she can't actually be invisible unless she's in water or apparently as long as it's raining. This power seems really specific... oh and she can resist really cold and hot stuff. Which is good because about 30 minutes in she's standing under a pipe and gets hit with something really cold and frozen solid. Sure is lucky it wasn't bear man or rock guy Bad guy 1. Lightning/electrical man who can basically control anything with electricity in it(even things that probably need someone to physically press something). Oh and he's really strong and looks like a potato with whatever face prosthetic they used. He wants to take over the world because someone done him wrong. The music was like some really bland version of The Avengers and I know I keep going back to that but it's hard not to compare it to it. I guess maybe you could compare it to The Fantastic Four and it might actually like quite good in comparison. Unless you are really really bored and have a few brain cells to lose don't watch this movie. Or just watch Corridor Crew's react video where they react to bad and good russian CGI and you'll see basically enough of the movie to understand what it's all about.
**The Guardians: how to make a "Russian X-Men" flick for $7 million.** In our world the sum of $7 million was last adequate for a blockbuster about 40 years ago. Obviously, the Russian team bet on using smaller resources to maximum gain. Not unlike the current Russian president's geopolitics, cough. The result is more than solid—for a direct-to-DVD level superhero flick, that is. **The women:** gorgeous in a way which only Eastern European women can ever be—combining the Scandinavian Valkyrie component with the finer feminine Slavic beauty. In short—the next Trump-type can do worse than dip into the beauty pool of The Guardians. **The men**: dreamy types, blond and dark, muscular and lithe—for all tastes. **The acting quality:** imagine the supporting cast of any generic direct-to-DVD film with Steven Segal, but worse by about 25%. **The action sequences:** world class. **The special effects:** more or less on par with the special effects from the first X-Men film from the year 2000, which back then cost $75 million to make. Apparently a decade and a half later technology has progressed enough to enable the plucky Russian team to achieve the same effects of…the effects…for a minuscule fraction of the cost. **The plot:** Soviet super-soldier experiments decades ago led to a bunch of amnesiac, un-aging men and women scattered around the country, who are gathered once more in order to stop the baddie who is wreaking havoc on New York, *sorry*, I meant Moscow. The baddie in question is like an uglier Bane, but with an approximation of the powers of Magneto. **The end result:** can it compete with the Marvel or DC films of today? Absolutely not. Is it good entertainment when measured by direct-to-DVD or TV film (or modern computer game) standards? Sure **Conclusion:** back in the 1960’s and 1970’s Italian directors like Sergio Leone and Dario Argento proved that even if you have no budget and no actors and no coherent plot, you can still create world-class, even legendary cinema through sheer class. The Guardians has no class whatsoever, but is a perfectly OK derivative adventure with superheroes and things going bang, and in an "exotic" setting at that. Maybe this is just the start of something cheap and beautiful? If Russia becomes a world center for cheap knock-offs of Hollywood films, I for one would be happy with this development and would watch these films, because with smaller budgets and therefore less oversight by focus-group obsessed bean counters, interesting stuff may start to develop within the generic story skeletons, as once was the case with Italian films.
**Not just another superhero film!** It was more like a counterpart of the first 'Captain America' film. Because both the films set in the same background, which is the Cold War. But the Cold War was merely a reason to initiate what the film needed for its story. So as we roughly guessing the plot, there's something goes wrong in the secret experiment and then there emerges the superheroes and the supervillains. The last time I saw such scale grand Russian film was 'The Inhabited Island' and decided never watch such Russian flicks. I might be wrong, because my knowledge about the Russian films is less, but there could be a lot better films that I haven't seen. Anyway, I put all my faith on it, despite very low ratings and heavily criticised it on the internet. I must say that, it was a decent film, neither a breathtaking nor a worst film (of the year). Yep, there's lots of cliché, because you have seen them all in high standard Hollywood films. But since it is not a Hollywood, comparing them is unfair. A little appreciation needed for its effort. Except borrowing the concept should be questioned here. Because that's made its lack of originality. And one more exception is that science is everywhere the same, which is a big excuse for that. The graphics were almost flawless. The characters are unique, but adapted from the same blueprint how every superhero film take off. So what went wrong with it is the big question, despite everything's carefully and nicely done. And the answer is the screenplay. Any superhero films majorly depends on the best designed action sequences and the stunt choreography with respective superpowers of the superheroes at its best. > ❝Death for us is not a problem, we've lived long enough.❞ I liked the costumes, which aren't too fancy or simple, and the superpowers, but I don't think they were used that in the best way possible. And have you ever seen a 90 or less minute superhero film. That's another drawback. Because shortening the runtime does not speed up the narration. In this film, there were no space given for the character developments, like to make them, those heroes sit somewhere and have some lazy takes, which surely opens their deep thought, including personal events of the past and all. What I saw was, they came, they saw the villain and they fought him. Well, at first attempt, it should not succeed, otherwise the film ends there. That's how all the superheroes rise back from the initial stumble. Only after upgrading with modern scientific weapons and gadgets to boost their superpowers, they now can match the bad guy. Those were the properly done things from the film. But not everybody will be happy for it as it is another clichéd segment. So what, that's same even if it is a Hollywood or European film. Then what makes the film watchable is the production standards, that very much comparable with the big cost films around the world. Those criticised it was wrongly accused as saying it has the cheap CGI visuals, but that's definitely not true. Then the most successful film in the history of Indian cinema, 'Bahubali' would lead such worst visual effects list. If you watch this film, you would know that or you would bring your own perception. But the plot holes, surely there are many, if you are focused enough to identify them. After all, if you give your interest to watch the film, then there won't be any time to go after such errors. Thus, it is the thing what all the film critics usually do. Madness is some film fanatics joined them. So never mind all the negatives about the film. Don't think I'm defending it. Just know how I rated it, an average. My idea is to expose it not a very bad film as it was labelled. That does not mean it is a fantastic film either. A 50-50 chance film, which can be still watchable, and once you did, the outcome of the watch could be anything. So after seeing all the confusing ratings and reviews, it must be hard for you whether to go for it or not. Suppose if you ask me, I say choose wisely, and if you did, have low expectations. _6/10_
