The Red Suitcase - Comments & Tips
This Oscar nominated short film shows the terror of a 16 year old Iranian girl that has been โsoldโ by her parents to her Iranian husband. When she arrives at the airport where her new husband awaits her at the exit, she is terrified and looks for ways to escape her unwanted fate. A very strong low budget short movie that draws attention to the terrible fate of so many women even today, not only from Iran, but also from many other countries in this world. A very strong movie.
Nicely shot but felt more like a draft for something more.
"The Red Suitcase" is one of the better live-action short films to be nominated at the Oscars. What drew me in was the film's ability to maintain a high level of suspense throughout. The plot, set at the Luxembourg airport, revolves around a 16-year-old Iranian girl attempting to escape a pre-arranged marriage. In light of the protests in Iran, the film addresses a very timely issue. The short lacks a bit of subtlety, though. But that's also a difficult task with an 18-minute runtime. In any case, I wholeheartedly recommend the film.
