Found footage movie has a novel concept, with an excellent performance from Larson in the title role. Becomes a little wearing by the end, but for the most part, this is a creepy little movie that will stick with you.
Shot in documentary style. A bit slow, with few scary moments until the Big Scary Conclusion, which was super weird and kinda creepy, but I liked the story! Great acting.
Well acted, especially by Jill Larson (Deborah Logan), but **OH** the horror movie clichรฉs... It would have been far better had they opted for
not explaining everything with the typical horror movie scene of finding old documents and stuff
. It''s a decent watch though, and there are some genuinely creepy scenes involving the old lady.
Peliculรณn de principio a fin. Las actuaciones de la vieja son un desconxe y el pj de Anne Ramsey es buenisimo
cleaver, well acted, scaring at some points. a perfect little gem in the genre!
This was scary, actually. Well acted by the old woman.
I know itโs supposed to be scary (and yeah it was), but the old lady was so sassy and likable
Like an all you can eat bone marrow buffet: you'll get what you came for and so much more. A deliciously made found footage flick, with authentic suspense, few jump scares, and a tight story well told.
A highly intense found footage movie. The story is good, with a few clichรฉs and an overall engaging structure that gradually arouses curiosity, as well as some nice twists and turns. The pace is tense and often quite frantic, and the performances are good, with some creepy and impactful scenes. It's a movie worth seeing.
This is a top tier found footage movie and a genuine frighteningly good time. I appreciate it starts the scares within minutes and keeps upping the ante until the very end. Jill Larson is also truly the highlight here, a performance that is both so full of class and absolutely demonic.

A horror movie whether Deborah is possessed or not. Every character is dumb as Hell, but the premise and a couple of visuals are enough to keep you involved. Gains absolutely nothing from the Found Footage format though. Final rating:โ โ - Had some things that appeal to me, but a poor finished product.
**Secrets from the past is about to explode!** It was released a while ago, but I was not interested in the horrors, because they are not my kind. For an atheist, horror films are mostly a joke. I do like or enjoy watching them, but I do it very rarely. This is not one of that. Frankly, I don't know why all the horror films are same, but different cast, location and situation. If you have seen sufficient films in your life, then you would also find it nothing special. This a found-footage kind where a student making a thesis on an old woman with alzheimer. As usual, something goes wrong and all hell breaks loose. So finding the root cause and stopping it becomes the main task for all who are involved with it. I am sure those who watch films rarely might have more fun with it. I mean edgy moments with all the scares. From a new director with a decent cast. This is another title from the recent that to have a name Logan. Like all the horrors, this too ended with wide open, but so far there's no news about a sequel. I hope they won't make it. I did not enjoy it, but still you could if you are not my kind as I've explained. _4/10_
PEOPLE SCORE โ 5/10 Acting โ 1|Characters โ 1|Casting โ 1|Importance โ 1|Chemistry โ 1 Come on, people. You know when it comes to horror films, we need to care about the characters in order to actually worry about them! That means you need to have memorable characters that are acted really well and have the greatest chemistry ever! Not here. The acting was mediocre. While it does have range, itโs not a believable range. Character-wise, you may remember Deborah Logan, but you arenโt going to remember her family or the people doing the documentary. As for the importance? I would maybe put the importance on the people doing the documentary, but they all work as one entity, so only half points for the importance. Same thing with chemistry. Thereโs really not any chemistry. Even for the family members and colleagues. Itโs not bad chemistry, just non-existent. WRITING SCORE โ 2/10 Dialogue โ 1|Balance โ 0|Story โ 0|Originality โ 0|Interesting โ 1 Next, weโre taking a look at the writing category, which really scored a pretty low score. Why? Well, letโs take a look. As far as dialogue is concerned, itโs all pretty typical and expected, so Iโll give half points for that. Also, Iโd say that the film is interesting enough to watch, but everything in the film also sort of turns you away and confuses you โ so, only half points for that. Everything else was noticeably bad. Was this a balanced film? It should have been, but it turned into something overly convoluted. Youโll be a little confused as to which story to follow. The creature that Deborah paints thatโs watching her from outside of her window that she is always watching with a dead stare, the mass murder side story, the actual Alzheimerโs and dementia story, or the kid from the hospital story that is revisited a couple of times randomly. Itโs just incredibly aimless, which brings me to the story. The story couldโve been better if they just focused on one story, instead, itโs confusing and youโre left wondering what the point was in the end, so zero points for the story, as well. Itโs also utterly unoriginal. It feels like weโve seen it a billion times before, and maybe thatโs the case because this ended up being quite the forgettable horror flick. BTS SCORE โ 7/10 Visuals โ 1|Directing โ 1|Editing โ 2|Advertisement โ 2|Music โ 1 I guess weโve got an okay score when it comes to behind-the-scenes, which got perfect scores in its editing and advertisement subcategories. The editing was done well because you have to consider the first half a mockumentary, which feels as such, and the rest is the unedited section once the madness ensued โ so it feels more like found footage โ and all the random cuts that accompany that to make it feel like it really is found footage. Itโs also as-advertised, so thatโs definitely helpful. The visuals were typical, save for one little scene towards the end. The directing was as expected, nothing challenging there. Finally, there wasnโt anything about the music or sound that really stood out. NARRATIVE ARC SCORE โ 8/10 Introduction โ 2|Inciting Incident โ 2|Obstacles โ 1|Climax โ 1|Falling Action โ 2 Alrighty, so now we look at the narrative arc score, which was okay. The introduction was fine, as it set up the characters, setting, and the current state of things. The inciting incident is when Deborah Logan eventually agrees to let the film team film her story. There were obstacles, but they really didnโt seem to have to do with anything โ so only half points there. The climax felt rather anticlimactic because there didnโt seem to be a culmination of everything else, it just seemed to be something else. The falling action and return to a new norm are mostly in place, though, so Iโll give that full points. ENTERTAINMENT SCORE โ 0/10 Rewatchability โ 0|Fun โ 0|Impulse/Buy โ 0|Impulse/Talk โ 0|Sucks you in โ 0 So, how entertaining was The Taking of Deborah Logan? Well, in my opinion, itโs really not entertaining at all. Everything here got zero points. I wouldnโt dare rewatch it again because itโs way too convoluted, so I was way too confused watching this film, and that confusion got in the way of me ever having fun with the film or ever getting sucked in. Because of all that, I donโt care to buy it, own it, or even talk to others about it who have maybe never heard of it before. Soโฆyeah, this film really wasnโt all that entertaining. SPECIALTY TOTAL โ 15/50 Mind Control Month โ 5|Possession Week โ 5|Horror โ 0|Mystery โ 0|Halfway Decent โ 5 We now move onto the specialty questions that I asked before seeing the film, and once again, we have an unbelievably low score. First up, this is mind control month, so how was this as a mind control film? Well, I canโt say itโs not there, because it certainly is, in a way, but for the most part, it was more focused on the possibility of being dementia or Alzheimerโs, so only half points there. How was this film as a possession film? Same thing as before, half points. This is a horror film, so how scary was it? Like I said before, the poster is scarier than the actual film, zero points. Itโs also classified as a mystery, so how was that? I would say it would be just fine had they focused on one simple story, but because they didnโt, I lost all interest and stopped even noticing the mystery angle. Zero points. Finally, was this film halfway decent? I would say that the beginning was, but nothing else, so half points there. TOTAL โ 37/100
