Imagine a Kevin Smith film. Now remove most of the budget, the acting talent, the great writing, and you end up with this.
Really, just take _Chasing Amy_ - which came out the previous year - give it the budget of _Clerks_, and you'll have a pretty good idea of what you're in for.
Honestly the only reason I wanted to watch this is because Veruca Salt is in it. One star for each member. Nina, and Louise get some dialog, while Steve, and Stacy are just walking by. The scene comes out of nowhere, and adds nothing to the movie. Afterward, "Volcano Girls" plays. Was it worth it, I think so.
On to the movie.
Oh boy. The movie is titled _Totally Confused_ because our lead, Wiley, is confused about his sexuality. Did I say Wiley was the lead? I mean Johnny is...even though this is not his story.
Really, what this amounts to is the relationship between Johnny, his girlfriend Annie, and his best friend Wiley. All three of the characters are despicable - not just the three, but mostly them - with the most likable one being Annie.
In typical romcom fashion, the people have to be just dumb enough for there to be a story, but none of it works because of the acting. I'm not one to bitch too hard about bad acting, but it is painful in cases like this where the full weight of the film rests on how well the actors can carry it.
Ultimately, the movie goes nowhere, says nothing, and is just a waste of time. Sad, really. I could see it actually working in better hands.
I can't recommend this to anyone, least of all an LGB audience, since it doesn't depict queerness in the best light.
Anyway. Veruca Salt. Love them.
