Just action, no story. And for those that of you who didn''t get that it is a bad thing. First one is slot better.
One of my favorite franchises is getting a sequel this June, so I figure I would watch them all again. Don't you miss the old days when movies were full of action, bit of comedy, and didn't require a lot of thinking? When movies had 17 of the top 20 modern rock songs of that year. When Shia was a superstar? I know I do! Also Michael Bay is a way better director than Roland Emmerich by a longshot! At least when Bay made a movie about a beloved franchise he made it fun and not just completely changed everything like Roland did with Godzilla! Like Bay hasn't made a bad or even meh movie, at least from what I've seen so far. He's like a child in a man's body, which a lot of you might hate since you like movies that are like real life, boring and miserable. Rainn Wilson! ๐๐
Transformers: The Return of Michael Bay is all action and no brains. Which can be said with all the sequels. The first is the best but all Bay has done is remake it with each sequel. He takes something called Transformers too seriously and makes each film overdramatic and overstuffed. The movies are more loud than fun now.
now now
Not as good as the first 2007 '"Transformers'" flick but still enjoyable! The main problem is the ridiculous propaganda for the US army A.K.A. the ending / showdown of the flick. It is nearly ruining the whole movie for me: Michael Bay overdoes it when trying to selling what a brilliant group of patriots and true heroes the US army soldiers are!
How can a movie with giant robots pretty girls explosions and state of the art effects be so utterly banal? So boring? I have no idea. Not kidding. This is one of the biggest yawners I have seen in years. I'm scoring it a '2' because it appears that there was a lot of effort put into it by computer effects grunts.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen had well... fallen from its predecessor. Bay's signature action scenes are there but wasn't a great as those from the first film. Despite the subpar story line from the first film Revenge of the Fallen had a much poorer plot line. Also I couldn't stand the Autobot Twins, every time they were on the screen I would just want to fast forward through it. They annoyed me that much along with Sam's new college roommate which I think shouldn't have been in the film. This sequel to Transformers despite its flaws still was entertaining enough to keep my attention.
Revenge of the Fallen is so over the top that it borders on ridiculous, but...it's still enjoyable. I enjoy this one just about the same as the first one, but for different reasons. It has lost little of the story and drive that made the first one good, but has exchanged it with upgraded visuals and of course, this being Michael Bay, bigger explosions and massive destruction. It shows that Michael Bay had total control over this because of the WGA strike. You can hardly get more Michael Bay than Revenge of the Fallen. The thing is...Michael Bay never fails to create a spectacle that most people, that is the target audience of this movie in the first place, will love. Just because all the hip kids hate on Bay, doesn't mean he doesn't know his audience, and looking at the box office...he's not exactly failing, is he.
I just can''t bring myself to enjoy watching giant animated robots fight each other for 2 1/2 hours. If they were fighting in a cool way, if they were doing impressive things, I might be able to get on board. But this is just endlessly boring.
There is a Naruto poster in this movie. Revenge of the Fallen is incredibly deranged in the most fascinating ways both behind the scenes and with the film itself while also being absolute dog shit, putting it in a rating limbo.

So "Sam" (Shia LaBeouf) reckons after his first death-defying dose of mechanised shenanigans, that he is done with all things "Autobot" and so looks forward to settling down at college with "Mikaela" (Megan Fox). Nope, not to be. He keeps having dreams, and vivid, mysterious, dreams that feature mysterious writings? Just like with the first outing of this franchise, the story drags the young couple into a battle between the "Autobots" and their foes, the "Decepticons" only this time the rehash of the hidden power-cube story tries to immerse itself in ancient Egyptian mythology as a means of making the never ending assemble/disassemble/reassemble fight scenes emerge as something less repetitive and, frankly, dull. There isn't really a script to speak of, and at 2ยฝ hours this really does feel like you could have actually built one of the pyramids in the time it takes to come to what is the inevitable tee for another sequel. John Turturro steals his scenes as the ultra-hammy agent "Simmons" and we have Josh Duhamel as the eye-candy in an uniform but as with the first film, Fox is as wooden as a skateboard. Although there is pretty much non-stop action throughout, I still couldn't tell who is fighting with whom nor is "Bumblebee" getting any better at the close protection game. One for die hard fans, I think - it certainly left me yawning.
<em>'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen'</em> is much like the original for me, in that I never got hooked into what was being portrayed in front of my eyes; I was more just processing the events, rather than actually absorbing anything. Don't get me wrong, neither flicks are bad, just not good in my opinion. I personally have a hard time differentiating all of the robots, even main dude Optimus Prime. Their designs aren't eye-catching to me, I don't feel like I'm looking at anything other than metal and tiny little light up eyes. The wall-to-wall action doen't help either, what with them just clattering into each other constantly. With that said, the aforementioned carnage does help in regards to the pacing and run time. 150 minutes is way too long, though to be honest it flows well for a movie of that length and I was never desperate for the end credits to arrive. I just wasn't properly enjoying myself at any point. Shia LaBeouf works, a competent and well chosen lead no doubt. Megan Fox really is only there to look beautiful though, eh? No dislike directed at Fox at all, more so at those responsible for the lack of tangible character development offscreen. The rest of the cast are alright, Tyrese Gibson is quite underused though. The voice cast are slightly better than those behind LaBeouf/Fox. I watched that first film just over five years ago, I hadn't realised until recently that they had made seven (!) of them; plus that bonus one last year. As if I'm going to watch them al... of course I am. I'm bound to like at least one, right?
7.5/10 - IMO this one is actually better than the first movie. It felt less silly but maybe my expectations are just more managed now. It started of really good IMO (apart of a few scenes at the university) but then it did fall off and became more silly/embarrassing again. But it didn't really reach an annoying level of silliness so I guess it's fine. Anyway, lots of action, explosions, and CGI. It's kinda fun/cool to watch and definitely has it's moments but it lack's a good story (Optimus Prime is the best part of the story but there isn't much beside him). Some notes: - I love the sounds / sound effects (e.g., during the intro at the beginning <3). - "Suck my popsicle!" (On that ice truck xD) - The collateral damage is really high during the whole movie... :o - The Witwicky's dogs are kinda funny - 21 Guns <3 (IIRC I might've even first heard that song from that movie) - Ron's "jokes" about college and girls - "Camshafts" (it's kinda funny - I still remember this from the German version where it's "Nockenwellen") - The little Decepticon is really cool (he's funny, kinda cute, and interesting to watch in general). It's especially interesting when he changes sides to the Autobots (/ the "warrior goddess" :D) - "It's a choice." - Ron and Judy are kinda funny on their own - Cisco WebEx. LOL :D That thing is older than I thought... I once had to use it during the pandemic and it really sucked :o (but I guess that explains why it requires old software/frameworks to run) - Apparently Decepticons can now impersonate humans (that "hot girl" who kisses Sam before Mikaela walks in). This could have a huge potential for them but it seems like the movies won't explore this further. - The death of Optimus Prime is still hard to watch :o I'm so glad that they brought him back (but it's kinda hard to see the movies succeeding without him so there isn't really an alternative) - I miss Maddie from the first movie (especially her accent!) PS: The logos/emblems of the Autbots and Decepticons look so similar that I cannot remember which is which... :o
