Van Wilder has been attending college for far too many years and is scared to graduate, but Van’s father eventually realizes what is going on. When he stops paying his son's tuition fees, Van must come up with the money if he wants to stay in college, so he and his friends come up with a great fund-raising idea – throwing parties. However, when the college magazine finds out and reporter, Gwen is sent to do a story on Van Wilder, things get a little complicated.

This movie is why I loved Ryan Reynolds, and its just a fun ridiculous movie, don't expect anything from except laughs!

>"You think about the future too much and you kinda forget about the present." I am a child of the 90's so this movie is special to me. Dare I say that this is peak Reynolds? Either this or Waiting. There are so many classic memorable moments and while it is a college movie about having fun, it's not really that gratuitous.

Van Wilder is better than you'd think. Sure it's National Lampoon's and has a lot of party scenes but it's much more than that. The central theme is that Van is in college for his 7th year not because he is dumb or lazy, but that he is afraid of what's out there. He doesn't just party but uses his social status on campus for a lot of good also. Ryan Reynolds in an early role really does well and you can see him at the beginning of what will be a distinguished career. Don't worry NL fans, there is tons on infantile humor and ladies. This is also worth a watch to see Tara Reid before her career got nuked.

I'm not exactly what one might call "in to" American comedies, and gross out humour/romantic comedies are pretty much at the bottom of even that list. For a movie that most certainly contains both those two things (the latter in especially heavy doses), I actually didn't mind _Van Wilder_ that much. More
