Classic prisoner situation. This limits a lot the possibilities of actions, and there is nothing really original going on for the genre on this aspect. The main interest here comes from the great performances from the two characters, and the mother's back story, slowly revealing the weird, crazy, and evil deeds of her past. As usual for the genre, it's mostly playing on the helplessness and barely missed escape opportunities. However there are a few frustrating ones, because they're not bad luck but bad action on his part. [spoiler]When she got her mind back for a while they should have called Laura.[/spoiler] [spoiler]When Laura arrived, he should have made warned her and make her call for help first.[/spoiler] [spoiler]And obviously when Laura stopped him and distracted him, big mistake.[/spoiler] [spoiler]Probably something could have been done when she was distressed because of the dog.[/spoiler] The little plus is that even if we can see a portrait in the basement, it's the only thing to me that could suggest that [spoiler]Cesar could be a real person[/spoiler]. All the rest suggests that [spoiler]she is Cesar. Whether it is an actual other personality or an entity possessing her in the case the nightmare is real.[/spoiler] The final scene, with [spoiler]calmly going back to sleep after her grandmother's death, the fact that she knows Cesar, that she has the same nightmare, and Alicia's final words to not be like her, suggests that Elena is indeed like her, and they're both aware of it.[/spoiler] That's a nice finishing touch. However wtf with the people in cars seeing [spoiler]a woman getting on the tracks and doing nothing, and just honking after she's been hit[/spoiler] ? Forgettable, but not that bad in the genre.
