Universal’s first attempt at a werewolf series, Werewolf of London, delivers some scares but lacks compelling characters. The story follows a botanist who contracts a werewolf bite while searching for a rare flower in Tibet, and upon his return to London he’s told that he’ll turn into a ravenous werewolf unless he’s able to cultivate the Tibetan flower into an antidote. Unfortunately, the characters are poorly developed (particularly the protagonist Dr. Glendon), and thus it’s hard to get invested in their fates. However, the wolf make-up is pretty good, creating a frightening, demonic creature. While there’s a lot of exciting action and some intense scenes, overall Werewolf of London feels rather bland.

A botanist runs into a half human half beast while searching for a rare plant that reportedly takes its life from the moon in Tibet. He's attacked and bitten but manages to escape after he stabs the beast. After he's back to London, he notices that his body rapidly changing and becoming a monstrous beast. If I'm not mistaken, this is the first werewolf feature film. It's a bit dull and doesn't offer anything memorable but it's still pretty good for its era, it's short, and most importantly it's a whole lot funnier than I expected. The aunt and those two drunk old women really elevate this film. If they're not here, it would be so boring. The werewolf makeup is a solid attempt with some cool camera tricks when he turns into the werewolf for the first time.

Made six years before the more famous ‘Wolfman’ of Lon Chaney Jnr this was the first proper werewolf film and was responsible for the lore that follows these creatures for the most in filmland. Being bitten by a werewolf makes you one, turning into the creature only on the night of the full moon More

The werewolf is neither man nor wolf, but a Satanic creature with the worst qualities of both.

Dr. Wilfred Glendon (Henry Hull) is in Tibet searching for the rare mariphasa plant that apparently only blooms under moonlight. Upon finding the plant his joy is obvious but it's quickly short lived as More
