Overview

In a quiet rural English town, a family is torn apart when one of two twin sisters is abducted by a trusted local teacher. Years later, she returns, and the story shifts to the emotional falloutโ€”fractured relationships, difficult choices, and the long road of coping with trauma as everyone tries to rebuild a life that no longer feels familiar.

It was decent, but there was nothing in this you haven't seen before. Standard teenager kidnapped by someone close to them and hidden away for a number of years before escaping (not spoilers, its in the description). I thought they did a poor job of showing that several years had passed, everyone looked the same age, especially the teens (I say teens but they were all actors in their mid 20s). There was also little focus on mental health, or trauma, and seeking therapy, instead it spent way too much time on Abby and her relationship with Lily's boyfriend. And the mother seemed very toxic in the way she spoke to Abby over the course of the show that was perhaps alcohol fuelled but also kind of frustrating. The twins were interesting as they are played by real life sisters, but one of them is actually two years older (Tallulah who played Lily).

Pretty BS. Sensitive topic without punch and without the capability of captivating the audience. Acting is not the problem, totally bogus writing, illogical moments and terrible narrative are. It starts somewhat interesting and gets more boring episode after episode. There are escalation spirals that just happen en passant while technically being pretty grave. But like this they just kinda happen. The more I think about it the more I grow annoyed by girl taken.

I'd say nothing special, boring, deserves like 2 eps
5 years later, the only one who seems to have grown up is the Alice the baby
Girl Taken has an interesting although not too original premise/approach. the acting is pretty great throughout but the writing is poor, the last 2 episodes are especially bad, suspend all belief and logic.

Binged the show, it was top notch

The show looked interesting because it didn't focus on the kidnapping per se, but it promised to follow the psychological consequences of it on the family as a whole. I was disappointed to say the least. Lily had her moments, but those moments didn't look natural at all, like she was throwing some phrases here and there just to remind us how captivity messed her up. Abby and especially the mother were unhinged and they spent way too much time on the boyfriend storyline, for no reason. I just can't see how a girl who has been kidnapped for 5 years and had lived through hell, her first priority would be to get mad at her sister for being with her then boyfriend?? Like that would be Lily's last problem. The problem with that show isn't necessarily that it contains several clichรฉs, it's that it fails to reach the depth that it promises us in the first place. And for god's sake why isn't this girl in constant therapy sessions with clinical psychologists?? There was one mention in ep 3 and another in ep 4 and that was for a completely different reason. I get that at first she would deny help but aren't we at the point where she could start reaching out for help??
