Overview

Cartoon Planet is an animated variety show that originally ran from 1995 to 1998, and from March 30, 2012 to present on Cartoon Network. A spin-off of the animated Space Ghost Coast to Coast talk show, the original premise was that Space Ghost had recruited his imprisoned evil arch nemesis Zorak and his loud and extremely dimwitted archenemy Brak to assist him in hosting a variety show. Cartoon Planet began as an hour-long block of cartoons hosted by Space Ghost, Zorak, and Brak. They would introduce full cartoons from the Turner Entertainment library, such as old theatrical shorts and Hanna-Barbera cartoons, including the original 1960s Space Ghost episodes. The host segments were often original songs and ad libbed skits. New material ceased being made in 1997, and most of the songs and skits were re-packaged into 22 half-hour episodes without cartoons.

OMG! Today, I've discovered why I've never seen a rerun of the funniest episode of "Space Ghost:Coast to Coast" -- turns out, it was THIS SHOW and not SG:C2C at all! So back in the Fall of 1997, some friends and I were hanging out drinking and getting high, and while we randomly flipped through all the channels on cable, we stumbled on a scene with Brak and Zorak singing some goofy song. It was just goofy and crazy enough that it stopped the entire room and well sat there rapt in amazement at the craziness of this random cartoon show. Not only were there sketches, but there seemed to have some of the classic SG:C2C interviews--so we all assumed we were watching a typical episode of the Coast to Coast show. Later, I watched all of the reruns of Coast to Coast, and NEVER saw any of the same stuff I'd seen that night in 1997. Turns out, WE WERE WATCHING CARTOON PLANET and NOT Coast to Coast! Wow, that really explains a lot. So, earlier today, I just happened to notice that a friend's Plex server had recently added all of Coast to Coast, and decided to start watching it from the beginning. Much to my surprise and delight, it turned out that it had been mis-matched as Coast to Coast, but it was actually Cartoon Planet. After watching about 10 minutes, I realize that I was watching the same show we randomly found in 1997. What a surprise! It is so goofy but very funny!
