Chris Rock: Selective Outrage - Comments & Tips
Middle of the road special, not bad. But props for doing it live in one take, no cuts, no editing.
Being a Chris Rock fan, I enjoyed this very much. The first 30 minutes or so was off the charts. He wasn't holding back.
Feature 71 (Goal: 300) of 2024 Had this turned off about 20-25 minutes in, I would have stopped at 4 stars. Chris Rock comes out on fire with some great jokes about woke culture. Maybe a low hanging fruit in this modern age, but doesn't mean you can mine the gold from it. But the "2nd act" if you will is a bit of slog. A big portion relating to abortion and his daughters attending rich white private schools drags and doesn't have anywhere near the meat of the first portion. The climax picks up a bit and touches on "the slap" but even that doesn't have the steam of the opening 25 minutes. Chris Rock has never been a comedian I rush out to see. And admittedly I decided to watch this to see how "the slap" was handled. The special is decent and it's a fun and easy way to spend 70 minutes, but there are better ones out there on NETFLIX, released in 2023 alone.
Woke has killed modern comedy.
Great beginning, terrible middle, decent finish. It would probably be 20 minutes shorter if he did not repeat himself every few sentences.
Ok but not great, lots of wasted time between jokes.
I fell asleep... I have to try to watch it again :eyes:
Most of the time he felt like Bring The Pain Rock. But there were some stumbles like the flat abortion jokes and the concussion/emancipation mess up that kept it from being a true classic. Heโs still one of the GOATs. This did not improve that standing nor diminish it.
Not bad, had some really funny bits. Not top drawer stuff but worth seeing.
Not great, but not bad. A MUST WATCH!
It's a live standup, so it's probably best watched live. It has some good jokes but I only watched it for the response to Will Smith. I think that's why it's on Trakt front-page right now, everyone wants to see Rock's response and his response definitely makes it worthwhile.
