Insights

Review Summary

Pros: funny and moving; honest queer perspective; relatable messy emotions | Cons: often bleak tone; lead can grate; uneven character depth

Will You Like This?

You’ll likely enjoy this if you want a raw, funny-sad relationship story that tackles mental health and queer life with awkward honesty, like Transparent or High Maintenance; Not for you if you want light, upbeat comedy or a consistently hopeful tone.

Featured Comments/Tips

I despise with every fibre of my being that this show is rated so poorly. It had one of the best first seasons of any show, one of the greatest and most pure characters I have ever seen (Chris), and one of the more unique and fresh perspectives on what could''ve otherwise been a stale sitcom about sad queer people. I am elated that it was renewed for a second season, because this kind of show is exactly what this world needs right now - but clearly does not deserve.

I saw the pilot screened with creator/showrunner / star Abby McEnany at the NYC NewFest LGBT film fest. Abby was delighted and shocked that her show got picked up on a major network - her excitement was genuine and palatable. I enjoyed the LOL writing, superb acting, and diverse cast. But trigger warning, the plot revolves around the main character who is suicidal , has severe OCD, and is depressed. I appreciated that there is a help line advertised after the credits for '"www.180almondsresources.com'". Overall, great.
