Based pilot episode, it's rare to see an anime episode that run for 1 hour, even more with advertisings. Sentenced to ne a Hero is a masterpiece anime witha lot of twists and turns, complicated in battle scenes, complicated in politics behind the war, and how a man who was a hero became fallen holy knight to be punished as a hero. In the world of political cowardice intrigues, a hero status is a punishment, not a proud status to hold on to. In this pilot episode, we got introduced to Xylo, the fallen holy knighy who had covenant with a Goddess who he ended killed to avoid a more disastrous lost in war. But royalties' cowardice didnt want to admit their bad judgement so with the death of the Goddess Senerva, Xylo was punished to be a hero, some kind of fighter to be sacrificed in the front line to save the holy knights. As time went on, another war against the creature army of Demon Lord occured and Xylo was assigned to be in the front line to face the enemies. His partner was a thief and stole a coffin. In the coffin, lies Teoritta, a Goddess. Xylo was forced to form a new covenant with Goddess Teoritta to save holy knight army under strong-willed General Kivia. Xylo won the battle. And we're back at the court where Xylo got sentenced. In short, 1 hour episode covered the story usually carried by other enime for a whole season. This was a remarkable production with rare high quality story and animation. Despite the thick western fantasy realm style, Sentenced to be a Hero is still densed with traditional Japanese value of heroism, obligations and principles. I like The Mighty Nein which are aired almost at the same time and also runs for 1 hour. But quality-wise in story and visual, Sentenced to be a Hero is far more superior. It's a MUST WATCH recommendation!
