I didn't really know what to expect. And even after watching, I'm not sure how to describe it. An anthology of four tightly coupled stories, set in the 1980's, not with any specific new things (you can see Quentin Tarantino movies, Stephen Kings Maximum Overdrive, 80's revenge flicks, multiple dance movies etc all represented) but combined in a unique way. I say relax, give it a true, but only if you are ok with lots of violence

Very Disappointing. I was expecting this to be a snapshot of something like the TV series Heroes or George R. R. Martin's book series Wild Cards. There was plenty of build-up that just ends up being a single individual doing superior things, but nothing super-human. The 4 stories all tie-in nicely together, but I wanted and expected more. Definitely not the worst movie I've ever seen, but it is not something I would watch again.

The sum of the parts sometimes exceeds the whole. This film might normally reside in the mid-6s, however, I've bumped it to a 7. 6 is still good, although I can see people possibly going with a high 5 (but nothing lower). This film came out of nowhere for me. It features 4 interconnected stories... and a number of memorable characters. However, like many anthologies or collections of short stories, none of the four episodes really feels complete... especially the third (and best). However, they all have highlights and are all worth watching... and the way the stories overlap is nice. The director appears to be following up this film with another movie presenting a series of interlocking stories. Based on this, I look forward to it. This film is worth a shot. Stick with it. There are some good performances, it's original (if not filled with homages) and quirky - with style to boot. Oh, and if you don't fall in love with the character of Tina, you may not be human.

excellent, if you were a teenager in the 80s this has more easter eggs and references than anything i've ever seen.

This was odd. Admittedly didn't end up finishing it. The art style, creative choices, and the like made it too odd for me.

Nothing like Nazi slaughter to get the blood pumping.

I went off the visual as inspiration to watch this movie. Didn’t read a dang thing and didn’t put on the trailer. I just saw 80s, bright lights, and Pablo Pascal. Within seconds I knew this movie was going to be a sci fi horror movie. Silly me. So full disclosure, as always. I’m super sick and have difficulty focusing. So this movie, as freakin odd as is it, was probably the best choice for me. It was 4 short stories that connected. I guess kinda like Crash but not? I like the 80s part of it. I liked the music. I thought the acting was cool. I especially loved being reminded that there was a world in which Nazis are considered bad. I liked it enough. My husband said “that’s somethin’” and declined to comment any further. Did I like it bc the story lines are short? Perhaps. But I sure didn’t like it enough to try it again when I feel better.

I could have watched an hour and half of just the Pedro storyline. The rest of it was sub-par, but it was fine.

A fun time! Nothing too deep, but the homage is very entertaining. It’s all vibes here, most noticeably in how one of the stories doesn’t feed into the big finale at all, but from punk tomartial arts to rap battles to Neo noir the passion for these genres shine through

DEI "Tales from the Hood". Several completely predictable "multicultural revenge fantasies" woven together by staging them all in Oakland, with cameo's from past Bay area celebs AKA Too Short, and Oaktown landmarks (The Tribune tower, Sweet Jimmies Nightclub, (used to work there) Bay Bridge, Fox Theater etc. Nice nostalgia and member berries, for those that were there, but, other than that, nothing extraordinary. Give it a watch if you're from "the Bay" for giggles and grins. Other than that..., Meh.

Short story movies and shows are really my thing. I love the dichotomy of different stories told together, but separate. If there is any connective ticket between the stories then that is the real great sport. This one delivered, sometimes more than others. Rating: 3.5/5 - 80% - Would Recommend

Watched Freaky Tales with Christian and Ryan at my house. Fuck square format aspect ratio. I don’t like it, even as a stylistic choice. Most of the stories were weak except the last one. The basketball player ninja fight scenes were pretty fun. Ended on a good note. I feel like there was a better movie in here if those other stories had some more oomph. Connor 0, normal 5. 📼

A long commercial of psytopics, and a hotchpotch of political correctness.

Tales from the Hood meets American History X meets Kill Bill. Features a very diverse cast.

Enjoyed this one a ton. It's not serious and there's homages for days. Worth a look for fellow 80s cheeseballs. I enjoyed each story which is more than a lot of reviewers are saying. Surprising 7.3 for me.

Experimental filmmaking at its finest and probably one of the most memorable independent films of the year. The casting, to begin with, is perfect, and I wouldn't want it any other way now that I've seen it. The soundtrack is perfect too, even in the very risky rap battle scene. I like how the runtime is divided into four original stories, each intertwining with one another, showcasing similarities and differences I could not stop wanting to spot. I love how it's set in the famously rebellious era of the '80s, with emotional, impactful, yet highly unserious stories. The writers clearly gathered inspiration from other films, and I'm so glad they did.

Bigger budget installment of that sweet retrowave dollar with eh... references... to b-movies and later movies inspired by said. I guess the 80s retro romanticism is over 20 years old now so it is fair enough. At times too clever and contrived, yet manages to stay entertaining throughout. And offers solid satisfaction with nazi skinheads getting a well deserved beating by punk rock kids. That said, I'm getting tired of Pedro Pascal in every damn movie everywhere.
