The things we do for Alexandra Daddario.
interesting and unusual story - sometimes a bit confusing, but overall a very good movie with great actors and characters - entertaining!
โIf a lion eats someone, and you lock it up, and you say donโt do that again, and ten years later You let it out, what happens? - Cooper Why does every lead cop in these movies live the exact same lives. Ether divorced or heading for divorce, depressed, zero personality and walk through life like Eeyore. :man_detective:
The kind of film you don''t mind stumbling on some lazy Sunday afternoon, but not something to go looking for.
the cast is amazing and yet couldn't save the movie lol, it wasn't catchy at all felt bored and had trouble staying focused, add to it how predictable the plot twist was ...
A forgettable thriller with a decent cast but nothing else to take it to the next level.
How could a film with such a cast be so meh! Well, you have to blame it on the script I guess, which castrates the balls from the dark and disturbing premise.
The acting performances of Brendan Fletcher and Eliana Jones is what I will remember from this movie. Daddario does one of her worst performances so far and I''m not sure if Cavill still knows that he was in this movie, looked like he just got out of bed throughout the entire thing and just read stuff from a sign.
With a good cast and some good ideas it is disappointing this movie does not achieve more than the average cop crime thriller. The ideas are there, and at several points the movie tips its toes into intriguing territories. However, it avoids to tackle the themes and questions it sets up, which results in frustrating moments and it lets the movie as a whole fall way below the potential it had. Even though it does not manage to outshine some of the other movies in its genre, it still is a decent movie to watch.
Brendan Fletcher was fantastic. Interesting story with a solid emotional feel, but I think given the cast it could have been better. It has flashes of potential and some well done scenes, but there are parts of the story that just didnโt stitch together well. A solid โgoodโ and it kept me interested.

I tried to be more than fair to this film, given its cast. It has Michael Barrett's excellent photography, the original premise is also quite interesting and there are bits here and there where the writer-director tried to flesh out some characters. In paper, it has an outstanding cast. I loved Brendan Fletcher's performance. Eliana Jones is amazing, stealing all her scenes. And that's about it. Nomis a.k.a. Night Hunter has some of the worst acting I've seen lately. Henry Cavill couldn't be more clichรฉ and honestly he's seems like he's just going by the motions, not even trying to be more than your typical burnt out cop. Alexandra Daddario looks so out of place that I was surprised she wasn't edited out of the movie. Her performance couldn't be more flat, totally coming across as a nuisance in all her scenes. Stanley Tucci, Nathan Fillion and Ben Kingsley seemed only interested in cashing their checks, and that's utterly sad. Alex Lu's score is intrusive, and repetitive. Heck, it even sounds like stock fare from any given music library. It's a very disappointing film and pretty good example of a nice premise going the wrong way. This is David Raymond's first "real" film as a director with a "real" cast, and I don't know who was financing this bloody mess, but I hope they get at least a third of it. They made a good choice to make it VOD.
Henry Cavill is certainly an handsome man, but somehow he hasn't the gravitas to carry the leading role here. He is "Marshall", a cop especially requested to lead an investigation by the recently arrested, and slightly deranged, "Simon" (Brendan Fletcher) - who might turn out be a serial killer of young women. Add to the mix, a retired judge "Cooper" (Sir Ben Kingsley) whose daughter was a victim, and who has now turned highly effective vigilante and we ought to have had the ingredients for a decent man-hunt movie. Instead though, we get some weak performances and a storyline that meanders all over the place. Of course, "Marshall", has domestic baggage - an ex-wife and a daughter he is rarely allowed to see, but what's that got to do with the plot? His new partner "Rachel" (Alexandra Daddario) offers more by way of story development - she is to be a lure after the best armed motorcade seen in a long time carrying "Simon" - is ambushed and he escapes to carry on his reign of terror. The production is not good. The continuity is poor, people and entire convoys are there, then they are not, then they are again... It's all just a bit sloppy. By the end, you have a pretty clear idea of what is going to happen and though it's quite quirky, it's all just a little too lightweight to sustain the interest for what seems like a very long hundred minutes.
Pretty stunning how this film managed to get the cast it did. The pacing was terrible thanks to some dreadful editing, where it seems random scenes were cobbled together to churn out some half-baked crime-thriller, a genre I generally enjoy. This was just a chore to sit through. **1.5/5**
